Silence is not a bad thing... personally if I stay quiet is not because I can't find something to talk about...at the beginning, yeah.. I'm a bit shy but trust me once I start talking, y cogo confianza.. I keep going and going and going

Itz just me osea at a first meeting I am all shy and quiet and when other meetings come up then I'm more talkative until like I said you can't shut me up

So I can be both and don't mind both

My way of thinking is, if you're going to say something really stupid just to fill in the silence, it's better that you keep your trap shut.

But that's just me being sensitive.

Mmmm ! I think it really depend of my mood but I usually tend to speak a lot, even to much, sorry guys For different reasons tough, that can be the extreme oposite one from the others.

But I also enjoy thise moments of silence, when words are not necesary to get understood and/or heard.

I'm also comfortable with silence and mostly if I don't know the person (weird)...lol...actually it doesn't matter....by nature I can be very quiet unless i'm in a situation where i'm joking around (social situation).....

The "tension" of a person not being able to handle another's quietness comes from insecurity OR (like you said) pressure to just talk so the other person doesnt feel bad.....I know some people get all edgy and offended if someone is quiet around them for more than 5mins just once out of the blue.....

When I'm quiet i'm either thinking a lot, non-stop OR i just wanna be left alone for a tenth of a second...LOL

For those who know me they would know that there's no silence with me....I tend to talk a lot and I even bore ppl with so much bull$hit.....

but there're sometimes where I prefer to be quiet and just listen.....or maybe not even listen but just watch... I think those are the times when I'm kinnda "syncronizing" with ppl wireless...

I don't think forcing conversation is a good idea either... the other person can just as easily initiate something.

I find this phenomenon a little strange, I’m guilty of this and generally find myself very comfortable with it, but when I do opt to speak, out of pressure, I find myself doing it more because I don’t want the other person to feel uncomfortable than doing it because I feel the pressure to say something or to make MYSELF feel comfortable

I bring this up because I tend to be pretty quiet, and a friend told me over the weekend that I can be comfortably silent "for hours!" were my friends words, lol... which I never really thought much of it, but now that my friend has mentioned it, I notice it

Are silences easier when you've known someone for a while? It certainly doesn't happen with everyone. There are some people it's just impossible to sit quietly with. There's an awkwardness in the air. And with this comes a sense of pressure.

Sooo - how is it for you? Awkward? Uncomfortable? Comfortable? Do you panic? lol

What do you make of comfortable silences? Who do they happen with and why?
