The owner or owners of a single ticket beat odds of 1 in 146 million to win the biggest jackpot on record in the United States.

Worth $365 million US, the Powerball ticket was sold at a convenience store in Lincoln, Neb. It bears the numbers 15, 17, 43, 44 and 48 and a Powerball number of 29.

State lottery officials say the mystery winner or winners aren't likely to come forward soon, as people scoring big jackpots tend to seek financial and legal help first.

The U-Stop convenience store stands to receive $50,000 US for selling the ticket, which used computer-generated numbers to pick the winning combination.

The winner can choose a lump-sum payment of $124.1 million US (after taxes) or instalments over 30 years.

The previous record jackpot was $363 million US, for the Big Game lottery. Powerball's previous lottery jackpot record was $340 million US, claimed by an Oregon family in October.
