I wish I had been there; I've seen the Stones 3 times, including their show here at Sarstock.

And I remember this Styx band, their singer had a great voice.  Some of their song includes..BAbe ( BAbe i'm leaving, my heart is in your hand....) and Robot ( They showed some japanese looking robots in their video).  Julie, Styx is really old school, can I have that Cd?, hehehe!

Rock & Rolling

Age certainly hasn’t stopped the Stones from rolling.

Just weeks after they headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, the legendary rock group played one of the largest concerts ever in front of over one million people at Copacabana Beach in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil Saturday night.

Fans started lining up days in advance, well before the Stones pulled into their beachfront hotel, hoping to catch a glimpse of the band or stake out a spot where they might at least see them during the actual show.

The concert was part of the internationally renowned Carnival festival, which has plenty of drawing power of its own.

"We've been camped out here since 5 a.m. Thursday and we're only leaving to take baths in the ocean," said Rodrigo Barduco, a 23-year-old student.

Locals and international tourists came by the hundreds of thousands in a celebration reminiscent of a 1994 show where 3.5 million people hit the beach to see Rod Stewart in what The Guinness World Records has as history's largest concert.

But move over Rod, because Rio Mayor Cesar Maia believes that Saturday's Stones gig passed that mark, if only unofficially.

He argues that many of those counted at the Stewart show were only on the four-kilometre beach to celebrate New Year's.

Even against such staggering numbers, plans needed to be made to ensure most concert-goers had some hope of taking in the action thanks to the eight video screens and 16 sound towers.

The massive stage even included a specially-erected footbridge that took the band from the hotel directly to their platform.

Security was a major concern. In early February, three died and 38 were injured in Sao Paulo when thousands of fans surged through security barriers at an autograph session, and that was just for Mexican band RBD.

Hoping to avoid a potentially larger disaster, Rio deployed 10,000 police, 600 firefighters, civil defence workers and a number of lifeguards to the site. Even the port authority made preparations for the huge influx of boats that crowded the shoreline. And you can be they all had their hands full when the first cords of the Stones opener, Jumpin' Jack Flash, echoed over the huge audience.

The timing of the show was especially good for Stones front man Mick Jagger. He and Carnival dancer Luciana Jimenez have a six-year-old son.

This is the Stones' third visit to Brazil but just the first time they’ve played for free in a country where few can afford to see top international acts.

------------

Man !!!!!!!!! This concert must have been something !
