You can start by teaching them simple things like you said: Buenos Dias, Buenas noches. Como te llamas? Cual es tu nombre? And answers. Then begin with “Dias de la semana” Lunes, Martes….etc. Los meses del ano, enero, febrero… then teach them how to say, when is your b-day and so on, what is the date..?? Questions like that. The alphabet! And pronunciation. Numeros, oridinales (primero, Segundo…) Colours are fun to learn. For example: "El libro es amarillo." You know, little sentences like that. Then start with adjectives. How to describe nouns and teach them how there is different endings for feminine and masculine nouns. “feo-fea” “bueno-buena” you know, and the opposites: “pequeno or grande”. Again practice with simple sentences. Plural and singular. Questions: who, what, when, why, how - are important. Simple conversations questions and answers. “Buenos Dias. Me llamo Que chula. Soy de Puerto Rico y de donde eres tu?” That type of conversation. Subject Pronounce are important (I find that very important anyway) Yo Nosotros Tu Vosotros Usted Ustedes El/ella Ellos/Ellas And then verbs “Yo soy” “Tu eres” “Usted es” …bla bla. Then you can move on to regular and irregular verbs. Then, verbs that end with er, ir, and how they change when using “yo”, “tu”, “usted”…etc. From here on it gets easier to add things, and learn new words, a little more complicated sentences. Plus, tell your friend to sign up here, on TH foro. It helps, there are always new words and expressions she/he can pick up. Also kids Spanish books help, and singing along Aventura songs...hehe (ok. any spanish songs) -- Edited by QUE chula LINDA at 20:40, 2006-02-10 After my mumbling during the interview, I think Que Chula should teach me a trick or two about Spanish!..

Ok, I need some help over here. I've been asked to give some Spanish lessons to a friend. But, I'm not sure how to go about it...Any suggestions? I don't know where to start.... That person already knows the basics.....hola, como estas?, mucho gusto, mi casa es su casa ....etc, etc, etc....
My suggestion is that you start with the alphabet cause it's the most important thing to know in order to get the rest of it.
If ur friend learns how to pronounce each letter & to recognize them, garanteed 100% that he/she will learn how to write & read SO FAST.
Trust me I've also helped my mom's friends kids in spanish & it's worked for me. After they can handle the pronounciation then you can get into grammer.

I would advise you to use the Wiggles or Dora methods: songs, easy reading, repeat after me kinda thing; having easy conversations; sketch-type-situations and things of that nature. Then move on to something a little more difficult: Get them to read the bible in Spanish. Oh, but the first sentence you open your instruction with is "Se paga por adelantado." Hope that helps.

Music, Reading and TV in Spanish will help them the MOST!
Repetition of songs also helps...and getting them to sing it....as well as write down the words they want to learn and make them look them up in a dictionary.....

Let your friend listen to Spanish music but have the words with translation there too... that's how I learned some stuff. I was able to pick up Spanish when we were in Mexico last fall, but since I'm not hearing it regularly... I am only relying on reggaeton and this foro for my spanish lessons... God help us all (RGNFG).
Pray hard then LOL
Maybe Dogo can help you with translation, you know if a real reggaeton fan

Mmmmm, I think I know what that person would like to learn
Why do you start with having the correct pronunciation

Once he/she's done with the basics of granmar, pronunciation and spelling, you can get down to vocabulary... sustantives, verbs and adverbs. I can't stress enough how important those three are for acquiring english as second language.
For the sake of practicalities... it would be good if that person could start "naming" things and ideas related to his/her life, area of study/work, etc.
