the best thing to do when you go to cuba and they stop you is act stupid...if you start givin them attitude and being all smart-assed...then thats when they start to fuk you over...personally i think its stupid of them to be like that towards tourists because were the ones who are payin to go to the country and then if they treat us like that and we come bak and tell everyone (as is happening in this foro) ppls who haven't been to cuba are gonna get scared and not wanna go bak...thus...they're tourism decreases thus less money...because cuba lives on tourism....

so yea...
i love cuba and i have fam down there...when i go...they don't give me problems i've never been stopped or had my luggage opened...but my dad has...
who knows...sometimes they pick ppls randomly and sometimes they don't...you never know!

i still LOVE cuba!

I knew it! You are a closeted bride-wannabe! And cops, huh? Kinky.

Seriously, though, I wouldn't even try to bribe the cuban officials. These people are fanatics, and as much as they need the dough there, there's no way to know who will take it and who is a fanatic, so myself, I wouldn't risk it. But you try it, and let me know how it goes. Like I said, with U.S. currency.

Did you covert your money before leaving to Cuba or did you do it there?I'm going back in May so I just wanted to get a heads up. I had to leave through Varadero once and our experience there wasn't so bad, maybe because that's a huge place and they have so many tourists coming in and out that they don't have the number of officials they would need to harass as much. The airport in Santa Clara is tiny and there are only two resorts in the area right now, so they haven't had to deal with tourists so much. Maybe it was that or maybe they're just Assholes in Santa Clara. I don't know. As for the money, it's all convertible Cuban pesos now, which are like 20% more expensive than american money and maybe 30% more than Canadian. I would exchange here in Toronto, if possible. The rates at the hotel are high. We made the mistake of bringing american currency, and they prefer canadian-- go figure. You can convert cuban convertible pesos back to Canadian at the airport upon your return. Don't you work in the travel industry? I thought you did.

Thanks Buffy. Ya I work in travel that's why I knew that they are in pesos now. I just didn't know if it was cheaper to convert there or here because we get mixed reports from passangers. Some say here is cheaper and others say it's cheaper there. I'll most likely just do it here and take a bit extra incase I run out of money.

I think you can give them attitude but it could easily backfire, so, as hard as it was, I think it was easier to try to go along with them and just try to leave the hell out of Cuba as soon as possible. Throw you in jail for what???

I guess since I've never been there....I don't know........But that would really get my blood boiling.......

Can you not bribe them???

So as most of you know, (alright, just LadyBug. The rest of you didn't even notice I was gone... ) I just came back from Cuba last week. The trip was nice and all, but I could not believe how we were harrassed by airport security. As soon as we landed and they saw our gorgeous latin faces, they starting buzzing around us and by the time we got to the attendants, they separated us and started grilling hubby, and he had to give them every single detail about his life. We had to show our passports to every single official there and by the end I was just pissed. It was so frustrating. (Plus I was PMS-y) Anyway, the return wasn't any better. In fact, it was worse. They had a guy following hubby, very blantantly, all over the airport. And they were so rude and obnoxious. And it was only with us that they did that. They didn't even try to pretend, the harrassment was so blatant. I've been to Cuba three times (Holguin and Cienfuegos) and it's been bad before, but this time it just went overboard. Is it Santa Clara or is all of Cuba like that? Has any of you ever experienced this? I'm so turned off, even though the resort and the beaches and the people from the resort were so wonderful, that I don't know if I ever want to visit Cuba again.
