make sure you can go wireless.
that way you can go to the library, starbucks etc and use the net and have a latte.

keyboards are good for typing... also look into gettin one with a screen, those are good to have too.

Couple months ago I bought a Dell Inspirion 6000 and I was very happy but I needed more hoursepower so couple weeks ago I upgraded it for an Inspirion 9400 with a 17" true life screen and not bad.

You should check Dell.ca they have Laptops from 800 buckets.
