Green eggs and ham is a cute idea when you see it in a children’s book, but you may not think it’s so nifty if it actually ended up on your plate.
Scientists in Taiwan have bred transgenic pigs that are fluorescent green – both inside and out. Bright green proteins were injected into embryonic pigs producing three, green, male swine.
"There are partially fluorescent green pigs elsewhere, but ours are the only ones in the world that are green from inside out. Even their hearts and internal organs are green," professor Wu Shinn-Chih of National Taiwan University said.
Transgenic pigs are often used to study human diseases and the green ones could help researches monitor and trace changes in tissues during the physical development, researchers said.
Scientists in Taiwan are also responsible for creating the first transgenic glowing fish.
And you thought green ketchup was bad.Well think again
