What's the percentage of employees who do it WHILE at work.

THAT would explain a lot in regards to Luna's behaviour and constant hick cupping!

Somehow I feel like I can relate

Work Buzz

After a hard day's work, it’s not uncommon to unwind with a cold one at a local pub or at home.

But a startling new survey reveals that many of your co-workers could actually be juiced while at work.

A new study from the U.S. reveals that an estimated 15 per cent of the workforce drinks alcohol on the job, has a drink before going to work or otherwise is under the influence of alcohol.

"Clear policies should be in place regarding alcohol impairment and impairment at work," wrote researcher Dr Michael Frone.

"But despite management's responsibility for the development and enforcement of such policies, managers report elevated rates of consuming alcohol during the workday, working under the influence of alcohol, and working with a hangover," he said.

Like many 9-to-5ers, Torontonian Michael Rose and his colleague head to a nearby bar for an after-work drink once or twice a week.

“Folks spend a lot of time at work in their lives and they spend a lot of time with the people they work with and that spills over into after hours,” he reasons.

But it’s a different story when it comes to consuming alcohol on the job, especially if it could endanger others.

That’s what happened with the tragic Exxon Valdez oil spill off the Alaskan coast in 1989. It was the most devastating such disaster ever and its captain admitted to drinking before boarding the ship.

According to the study, young, single men were most likely to consume while working and the most common practice was showing up to work with a hangover.

"Of all psychoactive substances with the potential to impair cognitive and behavioural performance, alcohol is the most widely used and misused substance in the general population and the workforce," Frone said.

"The misuse of alcohol by employed adults is an important social policy issue with the potential to undermine employee productivity and safety," he added.
