i always used to get eid ul fitr mixed wit eid ul adha when i lived in da middle east...so here's a lil more eid info about the other important celebration after hajj courtesy of a greeting card website i frequent at da end of ramadan http://theeid.dgreetings.com/
Eid-ul-Adha or the ‘feast of the sacrifice’ is the most important celebration in Islam. It is celebrated at the end of Hajj, which is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Eid-ul-Adha is a day of remembrance. It celebrates the occasion when Prophet Abraham willingly accepted to sacrifice his son, Ishmael to show his obedience to God. In return Allah spared the boy’s life and instead substituted a sheep.
Muslims all around the world celebrate this ‘feast of commitment’, obedience and self-sacrifice to Allah. People sacrifice a lamb, goat, or any other animal and give the meat to family, friends, relatives and the poor.
Eid-ul-Adha is a four-day holiday with celebrations marking the occasion. The Muslims mark a special start to the day by wearing new clothes and praying to Allah in open spaces. People visit each other’s home and partake in festive meals.
Eid-ul-Adha is also a time when Muslims pray for forgiveness. Fasting is absolutely barred during these days.
Eid ul-Fitr From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Eid ul-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر), often abbreviated as simply Eid, is an Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Fitr means "to break" and therefore symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period and of all evil habits.
It is a joyous occasion with important religious significance. Happiness is observed at attaining spiritual uplift after a month of fasting. Muslims dress in holiday attire. After attending the special congregational prayer in the morning, worshippers greet and embrace each other in a spirit of peace, love, and brotherhood. Visiting friends and relatives is common.
Common greetings during this three-day festival are the Arabic greeting "Eid mubarak", "Eid saeed" or its Urdu variation "Eid mubarak ho!" which, loosely translated, means "Happy Eid!"
