You ARE a horse? Or do you mean you were born on the year of the horse?...

Dog Days

A Chinese company wants to ensure that the people it hires will work like a dog – literally.

The human resources department at Jilin Jiangshan in Shanghai is only considering applications from people who were born in the Year of the Dog – according to the lunar calendar used in many Asian countries, the coming year is a dog year, which starts on Jan. 29th.

The calendar assigns a different animal to each year and each is credited with various personality traits. Those born in the Year of the Dog are said to be loyal, hard working, and honest and the H.R. department said those are the qualities its looking for in new hires.

Chinese law does prohibit discrimination when hiring but doesn’t specify what constitutes an offence. It’s not uncommon for job ads to list conditions including gender, age, height and place of birth.
