Kobe Bryant was at his incredible best Tuesday night, scoring a career-high 62 points in just three quarters to lead the host Lakers over the Mavericks 112-90.
Bryant, who was averaging 31.3 points and had a career high of 56, shot 18 of 31 (4 of 10 on threes) and made 22 of 25 free throws while playing 33 minutes. He scored 15 in the first, 17 in the second and a franchise-record 30 in the third before taking a seat with the Lakers up 95-61, having outscored the entire Mavs team.
Elgin Baylor holds the Lakers' franchise record with 71 on Nov. 15, 1960, in New York. The NBA record for points in a quarter is 33 by the Spurs' George Gervin in 1978. Wilt Chamberlain scored 31 in a quarter for Philadelphia in 1962, when he set the single-game NBA record with 100.
