I actually get what you're saying....but it's the majority rules factor.....we live in a predominent "christian" country.....where many businesses feed off of the holiday "spirit".....

We live in a predominanTLY white country too. So u are no longer allowed to eat pupusas or listen to Salsa. its Roast Beef and mashed potatos with good old country music from now on... yee haw!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Non chrstimas celebrating peeps are taking our vacations anyways.

This gets to me though:

Channakuh gets to keep the manorah candle as a symbol

but

Christmas gets a Santa Claus??? and its not even about Santa Claus! what can be put their instead: star? baby jesus? (based on 8 crazy nights movie, and the weather network put santa cluas on the 25th of december for the 7 day forecast.

CHRISTMAS IS OVER ONLY IF YOU LET IT BE, SOMEONE ON THIS THREAD MENTIONED THAT THE REAL MEANING OF CHRISTMAS IS OVER, WELL, ONLY IF WE LET IT HAPPEN

and for Phanta who said that NEUTRAL is the way to go??? yeah, okay, let's all merge food, music, traditions, religions and everything else, there will no longer be identity.

Too bad, ChRISTMAS IS STILL CHRISTMAS and because of the commercial abuse on Christmas retailers have no fear to use Christmas instead of using Chananakuh - will Jewish ppl allow this? or KWANZAAA (which is more of a traditional celebration)

so if Christians take christmas back, maybe that will leave less room for retailers to take advantage: besides, retailers only respond to consumer demand

Serious question:

What came first: CONSUMER DEMAND OR RETAILER ABUSE ???

It is because we live in a multicultural society that all cultures should be given an equal amount of respect. All public spaces should be Neutral and equaly available to all people regardless of how numerous one kind of people might be. Otherwise we could argue than since th majority oif people in Canada are white, we as Latinos should except their customs and stop practicing our own cultures. Let me explain how your little morning incident plays out from the other side: DulceGalletita: Merry Christmas jijijijijiji Darminder: mmm actually ma'am, its "Happy Hollydays" for me... DulceGalletita: mmmm ok, no offence Mr convenience store man.. Darminder: Non Taken, Happy Hollidays to u. DulceGalletita: Yeah, I dont care what u celebrate, really, Im gonna say Merry Xmas to you anyways tee hee hee.... so Merry Xmas Mr Turban man.. jijijijij

That being the case then where is the "multiculturalism". So in order words to give others their respect I would have to stop my beliefs and customs?  Umm, in that case that would be unfair ... Yes, the majority of people in Canada are Catholics and this time of year this is how they express themselves ... Other communities are growing and with due respect celebrate them by all means, do your way with them plus I would like to learn more about them also ... Just like the firecrackers for Diwali I saw it too in my neighbourhood ...

About the incident, I do see your point and I would have kept it a HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! Si me lo ubiese dicho amablemente  BUT  this man por poco que me muerde y con puro sarcasm and all! It was like he was ordering me to say Happy Holidays y pues no! No le di el gusto, ademas ya se la traia conmigo hace mucho ... However, I do see your point with Mr. Darminder and if it was him who would have said this to me I would have said "Mr. Darminder happy holidays to you and all your family!"

So I guess the Christians are the ones responsible for all the propaganda right? Last time I checked......I never saw Santa Claus mentioned in the Bible..... Somehow the Christians MUST BE FORCING (shoving down their throat = over doing) all the companies owned by Jews, Muslim and alike.....to advertise, promote and SELL their products.....not for THEIR financial gain.....NOT AT ALL.......but because Christians forced them to.

THIS RELATES TO CHRISTMAS = BUSINESS/COMMERICALISM

SANTA & THE TREE ARE NOT IN THE BIBLE....BUT PEOPLE TAKE IT AS RELIGIOUS AND ASSOCIATE IT WITH CHRISTIANS.....ESPECIALLY CUZ OF THE STAR.

MY MOM FOR EXAMPLE....HAS A BIG ISSUE WITH MUSLIMS PUTTING UP A CHRISTMAS TREE, CUZ SHE SAYS THEY DO IT OUT OF THE "COMMERCIALISM" AND NOT THE RELIGION.....

I PERSONALLY AM NOT BLAMING CHRISTIANS FOR ANTYHING....I'M SIMPLY SAYING, EVERY RELIGION, TRADITION AND CULTURE SHOULD BE RESPECTED EQUALLY....IT WOULD JUST BE NICE TO SEE.....I WANT OTHERS TO BE LUCKY LIKE ME AND CELEBRATE NUMEROUS HOLIDAYS & TRADITIONS AT ONCE....

Christmas is SUPPOSED to be about Jesus' birth and its significance in Christianity but the reality is, IT'S NOT ANYMORE!!!
Now, if the all Christian churches started putting up signs everywhere, even in commercials and highways and buildboards "JESUS SAVES, GO TO CHURCH, COMES CELEBRATE OUR SAVIOURS BIRTH, JESUS IS KING, etc"... then yes, i would agree we are shoving our religious beliefs down ppls throats but the truth is, the signs you see right now are 60% all merchandise, SAVE SAVE SAVE, buy this for this person, come buy here... SPEND SPEND SPEND...
Give me a break ppl!! None of these ppl really care about what Christmas is really about... and I do need to point out that these ppl that are not Christians are ALSO SPENDING SPENDING SPENDING taking advantage of the "CHRISTMAS SPECIALS" as they are called.

Let me explain how your little morning incident plays out from the other side:

DulceGalletita: Merry Christmas jijijijijiji
Darminder: mmm actually ma'am, its "Happy Hollydays" for me...
DulceGalletita: mmmm ok, no offence Mr convenience store man..
Darminder: Non Taken, Happy Hollidays to u.
DulceGalletita: Yeah, I dont care what u celebrate, really, Im gonna say Merry Xmas to you anyways tee hee hee.... so Merry Xmas Mr Turban man.. jijijijij

Umm, but no one is forcing no one ... At least I hope no one is

@CHALE:   Take a picture of the nativity seen I wanna see ... shi shi lol ... yes it is religious but she doesn't have a note saying "YOU MUST LOOK AT THIS, ACCEPT THIS, AND PRAY"  I mean if you want to take a look at it great, you wanna ask questions great but this is the belief of some people and one must respect it and if you don't then YOU SUCK LEG!! (keep in mind I don't say you gotta believe)

@ BAINA: WHAT'S SO FUNNY?

I USED OVER DO INSTEAD OF SHOVING DOWN PEOPLE'S THROAT......(SORRY FOR THE WRONG CHOICE OF WORDS)

NEVERTHELESS.....EVERYONE CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT....I DIDN'T FEEL DISRESPECTED TO SEE THE DIWALI FESTIVITY AND I DON'T FEEL DISRESPECTED WITH ANY MUSLIM, JEWISH OR CATHOLIC CELEBRATIONS......

ALL THESE TRADITIONS AND RELIGIONS JUST MAKE ME A "RICHER" PERSON.....CULTURALLY.....

EVERYONE SHOULD JUST RESPECT EACH OTHER'S RELIGION....

IT'S NICE THAT CHALE DID THAT AT WORK.....AND IT;S GREAT THAT YOU WANNA WALK INTO WORK AND CELBRATE CHRISTMAS.....ON THE OTHER HAND I ALSO AGREE WITH PHANTA......

The Holyday Tree part is pretty stupid tho. If you have a tree then call it a Christmas Tree, if ur not down with Christmas then dont have a Tree.

Happy Holydays!

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Are you saying that Christians celebrating CHRISTmas.....is disrespectful to others that are not Christian???

No.

Not saying that at all... Christians should have the freedom to celebrate Christmas and any other religious events related to their faith in any wayy they see fit. This is one of the freedoms which we are entitled to in this great country.
