@ Neruda - Not that I didn't believe you.....but I looked it up.....and it appears that you are right.....Below is an excerpt for all to see......For those who don't know.....HST stands for Hubble Space Telescope

However......I don't think that the actual colours of the picture are what matter.......and no...I don't really thing that that is the eye of God......

 

Are the pictures taken by the HST true-color images?

The HST color images are produced by combining three images of the same object taken through different filters. It's quite similar to the way ordinary color film works, which consists of three emulsion layers sensitive to different colors.

You raise the question of whether the HST colors are artificial. If by artificial you mean that the colors are different from those the human eye can see, they are artificial. In fact, by using different filters or increasing the exposure through one or two filters, one can greatly alter the final appearance of an image. The HST images are far more spectacular and beautiful than what our eyes would perceive if we looked through the HST.

A similar process of combining images taken in different wavelength bands exists in X-ray, UV, IR, and radio astronomy (as you note in your message). Here, too, one obtains beautiful images that contain much information. They let us see what the human eye cannot see at all. They, too, are "artificial."

The technical term for such image creation is "false color," meaning the colors do not correspond to what humans would perceive

I respect your opinion baiman but the picture is not "real". I know its from the Hubble telescope. Taking pictures in space is very complicated. You cannot take colour pictures. Without getting into too much detail regarding the colour spectrum, photos are taken in black and white. A computer then adds what are called "false colours" based on an analysis of the substance they are looking at.

Beauty is subjective and so may the truth be. Should I deny that the processes involved in colouring the pictures might be misleading? Or perhaps you would prefer that people actually  believe an illusion. There is real beauty and real horror in this world -plenty of it in fact. Real, authentic things.

By the way spare me the pop psychology (al la Dr. Phil).

If we take at it (the picture) as art wonderful,  kudos to the artist.  Or maybe as science fiction. Either way it's a beautiful picture.
