On top of what Chale said about Dj Grouch he also has gone on tour with Melenie Durrant.  As for Contagious he has aslo competed in numerous dj competitions and judged them aswell, and is a well known Mc in the underground hip hop community, and also hosts the soundcheck show on CHRY 105.5FM  with Dj Grouch as the Dj.

Trust me when I say that both of the judges know what they're doing, and know how Djing works.  There's no need to question their knowledge about Djing or what it's all about, because they know what it's all about.

You know what's funny...well last friday this guy went up to Contagious and said "I hope you know what the difference is between a mixed cd and Vinyl or something like that."  LOL This is so funny, because of course he knows! Contagious and Grouch have been in this business for at least 12 years, and most likely have more experience than any of the Djs that are and were competing in this competiton.  I mean come on if they weren't experienced then I'm sure that Eddie wouldn't have asked them to judge.  The bottom line is THE JUDGES KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.  As for the rules well that's all on SN not the Judges, and like I told someone else in here if you have a problem with how the Djs were judged, then you need to go talk to the judges or SN yourselves instead of coming in here and complaining like a little b*tch. If anybody had a problem then they should have spoken up the night of the event, rather then wait untill it was to late. There's always next time.

Im going to be sooo hated after this... but here we go...

U really dont need to SEE a dj "spin" with cds.  When a dj spins on vinyl, thats when you really need to see his 'hands in action'.  Other than that, you can just base it on what sounds better... who did the better mixing job.

@ Prieto: DJ Grouch and Contagious were the judges for both competitions.
Grouch is a renouned dj in the hip hop community.  He's been doing this for years and years, he hosts a few radios shows and has been a guest speaker for many hip hop conventions.  He teaches dj'ing on the side as well.  So no lack of credibility when it comes to his skills to judge a competition.

just curious wouldn't the judges be there at the booth trainspotting? how can you evaluate the technical aspects of mixing without actually looking at the dj mix? you can't tell everything from listening

sounds bogus!!!

OK they mixed hipohop, but maybe they mixed it better than you mixed salsa....

just a thought.

Like LaDyBuG said, you guys didn't even have a clue on who the judges were, or what was the criteria for judging you guys...all of you should have been smarter and demand these things to be communicated (in written preferrably) to all of you.

Now you can complain, but that's it. Just let go and wait for the next one. If you think you're that good, then you should be calm...facts speak for themselves. Don't let a competition like this one bring you down or even bother you.

I STILL HAVE NOT "HEARD" A DJ THAT CAN MAKE THE CROWD MOVE LIKE
DJ CARLITOS.........TO ME HE IS STILL UNTOUCHABLE IN THE LATIN SCENE, AND
HIS ENGLISH/URBAN SETS ARE JUST AS HYPE......

HE IS A GOOD DJ, BORN TO BE A DJ BECUASE HE FEELS THE MUSIC AND READS THE CROWD, HE DOES HIS HOMEWORK, RESEARCHES THE ARTISTS AND THEIR MUSIC.....AND KNOWS EXACTLY
WHAT TO PLAY AND WHEN......AND, HE HAS MORE LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE THAN ALL THE LATIN DJ'S IN TO.

ADVICE: LEARN FROM THE BEST.....

Hey Prieto what's up? Respect

This is only my opinion as a former DJ.

Every Dj has there own style i mean if you enter a DJ competition your job is to keep the people dance no mater on what you play. Any latin club in canada plays Hip-Hop and Reggae because not only latin people go to our clubs and even us latinos love Hip-Hop and Reggae.

I understand you are not to happy with what went on but as a dj your job is always to keep the people dancing and if the people don't feel it then you are in trouble.

I don't think it was a good idea by the organizers to put rules like that but once you are up there just make the people go crazy, one Hip-Hop or Reggae track wont win you a latin dj competition.

But it’s good you express yourself.

Once again that's only my opinion.

PRIETO....

I CAN ONLY GO BY WHAT I'M READING AND WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING....
I PERSONALLY WASN'T THERE....BUT I HAVE SOME "PROFESSIONAL ADVICE" TO GIVE....

1. DID YOU GUYS SIGN A PERFORMANCE AGREEMENT WITH SABOR NUEVO AGREEING TO ALL THE RULES AND REGULATIONS....?

2. A LATIN DJ COMPETITION CAN ALSO MEAN THAT THE DJ'S MUST BE LATIN, NOT JUST THAT THEY HAVE TO PLAY LATIN MUSIC.....NO? (WAS THIS IN THE CONTRACT? WAS THERE A CONTRACT? LOL)

3. A GOOD DJ CAN SPIN ANYTHING, EVEN LATIN URBAN MUSIC (HIP HOP, REGGAE, RAP)......MAYBE EVEN BY SPINNING HOUSE/TRANCE YOU COULD HAVE CAUGHT THE JUDGES OFF GUARD....."SHOCK VALUE"...SHOW OFF A BIT AND DON'T FOLLOW THE RULES SO MUCH....

4. YOU WERE COMPETING AND HAD NO IDEA WHO THE JUDGES WERE??? (WOW) HOW COME??

5. ALL THESE COMMENTS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TOWARDS SN PRIMARILY.....AND IT'S NOT ONLY YOU, BUT ALL DJ'S WITH CONCERNS SHOULD HAVE COMPLAINED RIGHT THEN AND THERE....NOT AFTER THE FACT.

6. NEVER TAKE A DJ COMPETITION SERIOUSLY UNLESS YOU HAVE A HIGHLY RANKED, ACCOMPLISHED AND RESPECTED DJ AS A JUDGE.......(IF YOU WERE A COMPETING DANCER, WOULD YOU WANT A FELLOW DANCER TO BE JUDGING YOU?)

7. CONTACT SN AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS......BE A PROFESSIONAL. (LOL)

I CAN GO ON FOREVER ABOUT THIS TOPIC....BUT I WON'T......WHAT I CONSIDER PROFESIONALISM, MIGHT NOT BE WHAT YOU CONSIDER PROFESSIONAL.......KEEP DOING YOUT THING, YOU KNOW YOU'RE GOOD AND SO DOES YOUR FAN BASE I'M SURE......DON'T WORRY ABOUT THIS COMPETITION.....THERE WILL BE OTHERS......

****BEFORE READING THIS KEEP IN MIND THIS IS MY OPINION MI GENTE!!****

THE BOTTOM LINE IS MI GENTE:

THIS EVENT WAS NOT ORGANIZED WELL BY SABOR NUEVO, BEFORE THE COMPETITION STARTED THE RULES WERE SUPPOSEBLY AT THE TIME "NO HIP HOP OR REGGAE."  THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EVENT TO DECIDE AND DETERMINE THE BEST "LATIN DJ IN T.O"  IT WAS SAID BY THE ONE OF THE ORGANIZERS THAT MORE POINTS WERE GOING TO THE DJ'S THAT PLAYS MORE SALSA, REGGAETON AND MERENGUE CAUSE THIS WAS A "LATIN" DJ COMPETITION AFTER ALL.

****** IF IT'S A LATIN DJ COMPETITION  IT SHOULD 100% LATINO ******

THE 1ST NIGHT:

I WAS THERE AND HEARD OUR LOCAL DJ 'S GOING HEAD TO HEAD SOME BETTER THAN OTHERS BUT AT LEAST SOME OF THEMHAD THE "GUTS" TO GO UP THERE AND DO THEIR THING!!! TRUST ME PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO HAVE BALLS TO DO THAT EXCUSE MY LANGUAGE, BUT IT'S TRUE! GOOD OR BAD ....RESPECT TO ALL THAT PARTICIPATED! YOU GOT MY RESPECT BOYZ! COMING BACK TO THE FIRST NIGHT "I WAS VERY DISSAPOINTED WHEN I HEARD HIP HOP BEING PLAYED IN THE LATIN DJ COMPETITION"  AS ORGANIZERS THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE THINGS CLEAR THAT HIP HOP/REGGAE WAS ALLOWED OR NOT!  IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FAIR THAT WAY! OVERALL I DON'T AGREE THAT A LATIN DJ COMPETITON INVOLVE HIP HOP / REGGAE BUT THAT'S MY OPINION.

****** IF IT'S A LATIN DJ COMPETITION  IT SHOULD 100% LATINO ******

2ND NIGHT:

I WAS IMPRESSED AT THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT WENT ON THIS NIGHT. TRUST ME IF YOU WERE THERE U KNOW WHAT I MEAN.  ANYWAYS, BACK TO BUSINESS! THE NIGHT WAS HYPE THE COMPETITION WAS TOUGH AND I COULDN'T WAIT TO GO UP AND SHOW PEOPLE WHAT I'M ALL ABOUT.  DJ AFTER DJ HAD THE CROWD JUMPING AND GOING WILD BUT ONCE AGAIN HIP HOP "ENGLISH" CAME IN THE PICTURE AND I WAS DISSAPOINTED ONCE AGAIN.  NEVER THE LESS IT WAS AN AWSOME "BATTLE" AND MUCH RESPECT TO SPICE, DAMENACE AND BAD BOY.....WICKED SETS GUYS!

I WAS THE LAST TO GO UP, DO TO AN EARLIER DRAW DONE IN THE VIP AREA WITH SABOR NUEVO AND THE DJ'S!  I WASN'T LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET 1ST OR 2ND BUT IT DIDN'T MATTER.

THE ONLY THING I WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW IS THAT I WAS THE ONLY DJ TO SPINN " ALL LATIN VIBES" SALSA,  MERENGUE AND REGGAETON THAT NIGHT!  EVERYONE ELSE HAD HIP HOP OR REGGAETON WITH ONE DJ HAVING 2 SALSA SONGS AT THE END OF HIS SET.

I WONDER WHO THE JUDGES WERE?????????

WASN'T IT SUPPOSE TO BE THE MORE LATIN VIBES THE MORE POINTS BUT I GUESS IT WAS THE MORE HIP HOP THE MORE POINTS!

ADVISE: WHO EVER THOSE THE NEXT LATIN DJ COMPETITION PLEASE MAKE THE RULES CLEAR SO ALL DJ'S UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY CAN OR CAN'T PLAY ON THEIR SETS.  THANK YOU

****** IF IT'S A LATIN DJ COMPETITION  IT SHOULD 100% LATINO ******

TO THE DJ'S IN THE FINALS GOOD LUCK AND TRY TO KEEP IT LATINO....SINCE ONE OF YOU WILL BE THE "BEST LATIN DJ"

FOR THOSE WHO DISAGREE WITH WHAT I SAID I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY...........

PEACE,

DJ PRIETO
