The first band who introduced the term Power Metal in the industry was Pantera in 1988 with the release of their album (ejem) "Power Metal". Whatever the bands you mentioned did was just play heavy metal a bit louder and faster, none of them actually innovated in any way to create an actual new style of metal. It's just heavy metal. Tell me what really differentiates these bands you talk about from other heavy metal bands? If you listen to Pantera and the other bands I mentioned, you can clearly perceive a different style on their music. That's when a new genre is born.

Welcome to the foro Stealth.  Actually i was never big on Power metal, but i did like a couple of Pantera songs back in the day.  And Rata Blanca is not bad either.  But i can only listen to a couple of songs and that's it.

Power Metal: Evolving from Heavy Metal, Power Metal took that sound and made it faster and more powerful (hence the name), while still retaining the melody both in guitars and vocals. There are two "schools" of Power Metal, the American one, which puts more emphasis on riffing and a relatively "dry" vocal style, without big choirs or bombastic choruses, as well as the European school, which is more epic and bombastic in its approach, often with big choirs and a lot of orchestration. Often Power Metal uses Fantasy lyrics or lyrics about battles and mighty warriors.
Examples: (Europe) HELLOWEEN, STRATOVARIUS, GAMMA RAY, (USA) HELSTAR, ICED EARTH, MANOWAR.

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_metal
