Thanks Buffy....that's the clarification I was looking for......the program sounds great.....it's be good to see someone from the Latin community get involved.....and not necessarily just the musicians (who are struggling by as well)

I just read the article....and I'm wandering what it is exactly that these guys are doing to reduce crime in TO..... Are they volunteering to run music programs for kids who have it "rough"?....or do they do more? And how can something be organized in the Latin Urban scene here? How do you force or encourage the "little criminals" to get involved in these programs.... Buffy can you please explain this to me....it's either too early in the morning OR I just don't get it....LOL
I'm surprised you didn't get the article. This program is run voluntarily by established musicians at a youth shelter. So these kids instead of roaming the streets looking for mischief are getting together at the shelter's basement and the musicians are teaching them about music, how to DJ, write, play, etc. I think it's a great way to 1) pass on the knowledge and 2) give these kids something useful to do and thus save them from a life of crime. There's an e-mail address in the article i read today (beatztodastreetz@yahoo.ca) where you can ask and find out more about the program. I just thought that some of our musicians, who may or may have not experienced problems when they were young could get involved and do volunteer their time and knowledge to teach something useful to these young people. How do you get them involved: you make the program available to them (for free) and eventually they will come. If one likes it, word of mouth will get more of them involved, I'm sure.

I read about this on my way to work today. Apparently is the second time they do it.....good for them (i don't know what else to say). I think is 'Streez' instead of 'Streetz'. At least that's thow it was spelled.
I have the little paper right in front of me and that was a typo. It is Streetz. Are we gonna start another long accent argument again? I'm not in the mood to fight today.

A while back someone posed the question of how to stop violence on the streets of T.O. I just read about this program, Beatz to da Streetz, and thought it would be a great way to get hispanic youth involved in something other than gangs. This program aims to empower youth (especially those at risk) through urban music, and since we have so many musicians in the local scene, it would be a great way to get them involved to help the younger generation. What do yo guys think?
