Medical transcription is the process where one accurately and swiftly transcribes medical records dictated by doctors and others, including history and physical reports, clinic notes, office notes, operative reports, consultation notes, discharge summaries, letters, psychiatric evaluations, laboratory reports, x-ray reports and pathology reports.
It involves receiving dictation by tape, digital system or voice file, and using earphones, a foot pedal for start-stop control and a word processing program. It sometimes includes the use of a printer and sometimes a modem. A variety of word-processing systems are used. It requires good listening and language skills, computer skills and knowledge of medical terms.

Seriously, what exactly is medical transcription? Is this something you need to take a course for or is it something that can be self taught? I would appreciate the feedback, thanks.
Like Buffy said never any stupid questions! Yes there is a course u can take for medical Transcriptions you see you have to know all the terminology and short hand writing (i took nusing lol) not only that but to me and u we use certain wording or slang as we call it so do doctors theres is just more hitech!!
They have a lot of short forms thats why most of us cant read the doctors notes or terminology due to the short hand that they use to save time i mean u cant sit there and write a whole paragraph and grammer so thats why

No, it's not a dumb question. I'll tell you what I think it is, 'cause I've done transcription, not medical, though, before, and I've also seen my Doc's transcriptionist do it. It's just that, someone transcribing or writing down what the Doctors say. Don't know the purpose, though. I guess it's just to either keep track or to write medical papers... wild guess. You'd have to know a lot about medical terms, I suppose.
