Selection Committee Premio Somos Latin American Achievement Awards Canada
All nominees and winners of the Premio Somos Latin American Achievement Awards Canada are appointed and selected by the Selection Committee.
The Selection Committee operates independently of the award ceremony organizers to appoint, evaluate and select all nominees and winners of the award ceremony according to the criteria specific to individual categories.
Members of the Selection Committee for the Premio Somos Latin American Achievement Awards Canada are appointed by winners of the most recent edition of the award ceremony. Each winner appoints five candidates whose names are then submitted on a ballot. All ballots are tabulated by a chartered accountant.
In the order of the ballots that are drawn, the first six candidates to accept the position of Selection Committee member then replace the six members who have completed their two year term as a Selection Committee member.
In previous editions of the award ceremony the Selection Committee has consisted of the following outstanding individuals:
Miriam Catala, Félix Mora, Esther Sierra, Esteban Vercel, Sandra Hryhor, Blanca Talesnik, Jesús León, Jorge Lipovetzky, Raúl Masseur, Nadia Umaña, Carla Valeriano, Vilma Filici, Carlos Valeriano, Mauricio Ospina, Manuel Estay, Rolando Vásquez, Franklin Guzmán, Waldo Aristizabal and Chartered Accountant Juan Carranza.
It is the participation of these dedicated individuals that has ensured the development of the award ceremony, establishing a viable and transparent selection process.
HAVING SAID ALL THIS......I WOULDN'T MIND GOING TO AT LEAST CHECK IT OUT.
Me too! But this year you can buy tickets to attend.
I did see some discrepancies, especially amongst the nominees-- like no offense to Claudia, but for premio al talento juvenil I would've rather seen an actual youngster be nominated, like that kid Ivania Sandoval, or somebody like that. I know Claudia works with kids, but that's just not the same thing. However, I don't know if they chose the people from those who were nominated, and maybe people just erred by not nominating those who were more worthy. But the nominations are not really available for people to choose, are they? I remember when I posted, I got this in an e-mail, but not even in Toronto Hispano they posted anything, did they. So Confu, you may be right. Maybe this guy is only letting his "clique" participate.
I'd still like to see it, though.

I found somthing which I think is wrong.....(the following paragraph)
"......this very special award ceremony which has evolved and expanded tremendously, quickly becoming a creditable point of reference for the entire Latin American Spanish-speaking community of Canada. With categories specific to artists, athletes and professionals alike, this award show extravaganza also features special showcase performances by popular international and local Latin artists."
THIS YEAR THE INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS ARE FROM CHILE, NOT VERY FAMOUS WORLDWIDE (AND IT'S A BIT BIASED, CONSIDERING THE ORGANIZER IS CHILENO)...... AND LOCALLY?? DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED......LOL
AND
IS IT REALLY REPRESENTING THE "ENTIRE" LATIN AMERICAN SPANISH-SPEAKING COMMUNITY OF CANADA.....AS IT STATES THERE.......NO!!!!......FOR EXAMPLE ARE THERE ANY ARTISTS PERFORMING FROM VANCOUVER, CALGARY OR MONTREAL??........WHAT ABOUT "PROFESSIONALS" FROM THOSE CITIES.....
TO REPRESENT AN ENTIRE "ETHNICITY" IN ONE COUNTRY IT HAS TO BE WELL RESEARCHED, WITH NO "CLIQUES" AND FAVORITSM.....OTHERWISE IT'S SIMPLY "FALSE ADVERTISING".
HAVING SAID ALL THIS......I WOULDN'T MIND GOING TO AT LEAST CHECK IT OUT.

PLS SOMEONE READ THIS BIO AND TELL ME WAT IS WRONG WITH IT???????????????
Background
The Premio Somos Latin American Achievement Awards Canada is an annual award ceremony that recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the Latin American community of Canada.
This year marks the fifth annual edition of this very special award ceremony which has evolved and expanded tremendously, quickly becoming a creditable point of reference for the entire Latin American Spanish-speaking community of Canada. With categories specific to artists, athletes and professionals alike, this award show extravaganza also features special showcase performances by popular international and local Latin artists.
As the event with the single largest production budget within the Latin American community of Canada, the advertising campaign for the Premio Somos Latin American Achievement Awards Canada utilizes both community and mainstream media to reach over 700,000 people nationwide.
This prestigious award ceremony is organized on an exclusive invitation only basis. The majority of invitations are distributed amongst members of the Premio Somos Latin American Achievement Awards Canada, which consists mainly of business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals of both the Latin American and Canadian community.
From the first year the award ceremony took place in 2001 where audiences filled the du Maurier Theatre which seats approximately 450, to this past September where over 2,000 guests filled Roy Thomson Hall, it was evident that the Premio Somos Latin American Achievement Awards Canada is an event with a tremendous potential for growth.
This year we plan to continue expanding audiences by incorporating the participation of communities nationwide and once again featuring performances by internationally recognized Latin artists.

I think my mother won those tickets by answering a question on a radio station. I went there cause I had no plans to go anywhere else, but I was surprised by the event. I was also surprised that some young people got nice scholarship, some in the order of several thousand dollars, all I got in College was a $400 scholarship and it was great. They probably didn't get recognition from Radio and Tv cause they stay away from professionalism (jajaja, just kidding); well, but I remember that Cuevas and el Guanaquito have won awards and they belong to CIRV radio. There were latinos who are Doctors, industrials, professionals who I didn't know. We don't get to see these people very often, I think they are good roll models and give hope to the community. Anyways, I'm glad I went there last year.
