That's a good suggestion, but I don't think the competition should be limited only to CDs.

I am a musician, and even though I don't like it (because it's expensive), your equipment is part of you and your music.

So limiting a DJ in this case, who might have a sick set on vinyl only to mix CDs, I don't think it's fair just because other DJs don't have vinyls. Your tools are part of your quality.

I agree with all your other points though.

alright here it is...

i see all of y'all pulling out your claws and making a bunch of hissing sounds. lets make this legit, make it real, and make it skillful afterall this is to determine A Dj ON TOP OF HIS GAME. make the fair for all competitors...

after all lets face it, not all of them have the funds to afford over 50 beats on vynel so in my opinion mixing should be done on CDs, the universal music tool for the modern day Dj.

I've been to many clubs and i have seen "Djs" drop a mixed CD into the player and let it run. i seen Djs play around with knobs as if they were mixing when in reality they are not ( please remeber your audience can see what your doing for the most part ) So NO MIXED CDs!

we dont know how many Djs are actually going to show up and we dont want this event to go on for three days, let every DJ have a 15 to 20 minute set, when its down to the last two or four we can have a seprate day for them so they can have a longer playoff, do or die set. (the last part is just an idea )

during a set a Dj is required to play 4 or 5 ofthe following genres; Salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia, hip hop, R&B, House, Techno etc.

so now lets do a recap shall we? the rules (which can be play around with, these are just guidelines) here we go...

1. FOR FAIR COMPETITIONS MUSIC WILL BE MIXED USING CDs NOT VYNELS.

2. NO MIXED CDs, ALL MUSIC WILL BE MIXED LIVE AND THE SPOT.

3. DJs PLAY 15 TO 20 MINUTE SETS.

4. DJs ARE REQUIRED TO PLAY 4 OR 5 DIFFERENT GENRES.

and just to really up the ante, i think there should a mirror/ mirrors over the Djs so the audience can see them at work and a judge watching them behind him ( not over thier shoulder, thats uncomfortable but behind them making sure there are no mixed CD involved)

these are just guidelines and no i am not a DJ if thats what you think, i am just a fan a real music and great energy, a party goer, club hopper, fun loving music listener who thinks (and wants to know) who really is a good Dj and who is a poser. i want to see fair play and i am tired of talk, just get it done.
