Well my is a book name: Bitter Grounds a Novel By Sandra Benitez, is about el salvador how the rich exploted the poor. It make me realise alot about my Roots...
Ive read this book in English... and truthfully, I really didnt like it.Anyone read both English and Spanish version?Difference?Spanish one better?
You should NEVER, ever, ever read Garcia Marquez in English. It's like having a white boy teach you how to dance salsa. Never, ever, ever. Cronica is a great book. I remember laughing out loud while reading it... it's really funny, but you HAVE TO read it in Spanish, otherwise all the wit and quirky humour is lost in translation.

Ohh, I like this topic. It's hard though. The first one has to be Cien años de soledad. Because when I read it my love for literature was born. These books I liked because I read them at the right time and it was like they were speaking for me: The Nausea - Jean Paul Sartre, Steppenwolf - Herman Hesse and The Little Prince - Saint Antoine de Exúpery. 1984 - George Orwell because it's such an eye opener. Those are the only ones that are worthy of being mentioned ... I think.
LAhtina, I read somewhere that The Little Prince ( el principito en espanol) fue dedicado a una salvadorena que era novia o esposa del escritor. Do you know anything about it?

@ Zipote: if you like those books you will enjoy SECRETS OF THE MILLIONAIRE MIND..... I personally don't enjoy reading. I don't have the attention span or imagination for it and get bored, easily. I've tried reading a few and god knows university courses don't help..... No books have changed my life or had an impact on it from what I remember (that's the topic of this thread...right?)

It has several topics such as religion, misticism, whitchcraft romance, sex, death, forgiveness and love. The whole package. I recommend it. You should talk to nick ali......he's gotta be the biggest "Faust" fan I know.....The guy wrote a song about it called 'El Medio Dia del Medio Evo'........
gRACIAS Bainaman, i'd like to listen that song. Well, there are also several movies inspired by Faust, one of them was the 70's musical called; Phantom of THe Paradise, that was a combination of Phantom of the Opera and Faust. It was a great movie with good songs, I so it many years after being released caused I was still a child, but I liked it a lot when I saw it.

The book that has most influenced the way I think is
The Prince - by Nicolo Machiavelli
Second place I have to say probably
The Art Of The Deal - by Donald "The Hair" Trump
This one didnt really influence the way I think, so much as its thought me so many useful skills, not just for business but life in general.
Having said that, those arent really my favorite books... my favorite ones are probably Tom Sawyer (cause I read it for the first time when I was really small) and 1984 because I dig the parallels between Orwell's society and ours.
Catcher in the Rye is cool too with Holden and the phonies and all that stuff.
En Espa~ol I really liked "El Asco" by this guy called Horacio Castellanos Moya, I really recommend it if you can get a hold of it.

I've read so many that I couldn't pinpoint the ones that've touched me the most, but some remarkable reads that touched my life at some points were Siddharta, Caravans by James Michener, She's Come Undone, La Casa de los Espíritus, 12 Cuentos Peregrinos, Sofía de los Presagios, The Red Tent, Jewel; I, Rigoberta Menchú; some russian book I can't remember the name of... oh, man, there are so many.

"The God of Small Things" by Arundati Roy (I think that's her name)
Its an amazing story of the Indian Caste System and a love story between two forbidden caste, as well as the interwinding stories of the people around them. Its told by the female twin, from her perspective. It deals with a lot of issues surrounding life, religion, love and politics. Its definately worth the read.
Same with "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry
Outlines the lives of various individuals and how they all interwind and affect each other on the grand scale of things. Its about life, love, politics and the double standard surrounding women in India.
Both are amazing books.... I highly recommend both.
@ Jinx: i think that people were expecting a 'sex' thread from you... lol...
