I've the feeling the concert is part of a Political game to push the G8 countries to "forget" the debt, but again that is not gonna solve the problem....Its All Political games.... Africa has been a victim of an Unfair trading system with the western "world"
As TV Buff said Bush is going with a different mind....I guess there's not Oil in there..lol
I'm with the cynics: I don't think it'll make much difference. It might bring awareness in some level, but the problems with poverty, famine, etc. will continue, only because a bigger change is needed. Aid does help, but the roots of the problems go much deeper than that, plus like Miss Lee said, there's corruption, the lack of responsibility fromt he G8 countries, etc. Bush is even going into this with the mentality of "there's nothing I can change", even though everyone else is willing to bring about change and take some responsibility for our countries actions. But the a$$hole, who's the leader of the biggest polluter in the world is going in with a very closed mind, so I don't think much will change. As for the concert, let's just hope that people do at least contribute a little to charities, although even that I don't think will happen.
The music, though, was wicked. I especially loved Green Day's rendition of We are the champions and I loooooved Our lady Peace (who I saw live at Mel Lastman Square a while ago) and also Coldplay and U2... Oh, and Madonna!

I agree with your view. The live 8 concert has brought the attention of a problem that has been existing for a long time. I don't think it would make a great impact because at the end of it all most people are not interested in salient issues such as the poverty that exists in africa.Bob Geldof has done a great job in organizing these concerts and having a great line up however, what will be forever imprinted in their minds will be the peformance of this artists, don't misunderstand me, i believe its a beautiful cause however the poverty that exists in these nations is deeply rooted, the are forever in indebted to the "devil" (the world bank), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other nations, that should in my opinion pardon the debt because realistically speaking these nations will never pay back. The only way that these nations will pay back is if they are able to trade fairly to bring up their economy. Debt relief is only a small step in helping africa, but due to the corruption africa faces its difficult to predict where the economy of the nation may land unless there is progress with their trading situation.
I find it interesting that everyone rushed to go to barrie to see the concert lets see if anyone will rush to scotland for the g8 summit. The Group of 8 (G8) is made up of the most economically powerful nations in the world--the United States of America, France, Russia, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and representatives from the European Union. It will be interesting if the summit will create a difference it is up to these 8 men to see the dealing of resources etc. They unilaterally determine and implement polices that affect the whole world! This concert in my opinion was great entertainment but in the long run its the G8 run the show and they will determine the fate of africa. What agreements they make will impact the health, the freedoms, and the lives of virtually every person, forest, agricultural field, river and ocean on the planet. Six billion peoples lives affected by the decisions of 8 men.

While I was watching the Live 8 "hype" I was wondering if the Live 8 concerts will make any difference ? I wondered If at the end of the concert will people really benefit ?
In my personal opinion I don't think a Musical Festival can not address the Africa's root problems, I don't think so, these are Huge problems like Western explotation , Corruption of the African Leaders and the complexity of Africa in terms of Size and Languages.
Africa is a Huge region with 59 countries , I believe oever 700 million People and over 200 different languages.....
Don't Get Me Wrong it' a good concept...but the question is, At the End of the Concert, will the (African) people really Benefit ?
