DjTito Biography
www.DjTito.com
Born in PR in 1978, and raised in California, DjTito has accomplished many things throughout his career as a Dj. He began to Dj with Hip-hop at an early age of 15 with inspiration from local Bay Area radio mix Djs such as 106 KMEL’s Glenn Aure, and movies like “Juice” in which the Dj was the main focus. DjTito quickly began to understand the concepts of mixing through the help of a friend’s father, Dj Dante, who happened to be a local club Dj at the time. He taught Tito how to listen for breaks on songs, find beats per minutes, and the importance of being able to mix in general.
Soon after his start, DjTito moved with his family back to Loiza, PR were he got his first taste of “Underground” which would be later known as Reggaeton. Day after day, you could hear his music blasting from his bedroom windows as he worked to polish his skills as a Dj. The kids from the neighborhood would gather around and sit just outside the window to listen. Eventually Tito got invited to Dj a local Reggaeton/Rap competition and from that first event, he quickly gained status and soon after was well known around Loiza for his “Underground” parties. The likes of Hornyman, Original Q, Los Maleantes, and Las Guanabanas Podrias which are all pioneers to the Reggaeton game, were people that performed at various DjTito’s parties by surprise appearances.
Loiza was a great place, but there were too many violent crimes occurring on a regular basis, and after graduating High School, DjTito joined the military. He was sent to Texas, Oklahoma, and finally Alaska. In Alaska, Tito took what he had learned about music in all the various places he had been too, and applied it to his radio show “Urban Beats” which he hosted with fellow dj, Dj Alonzo on KRUA 88.1fm. With a variety of music knowledge in the areas of Reggaeton, Hip-hop, RB, and Dancehall, the show quickly became a hit. He later received awards for volunteer of the year, and best new show.
Due to his rising popularity, he was asked to Dj several clubs and events such as opening up for Naughty by Nature, and Djing on stage with BadBoy recording artists 112. With his new found success, Tito decided to expand by exposing his work via his website DjTito.com to the world in 1999. At around the same time he finished his first mixtape which gained him status as Dj of the month for several months, for an online community of over thousands of Djs, formerly known as Fromdj.com. The mix attracted the attention of many people, one of which was DjVlad, who at the time actually contacted Tito to talk about doing collabos. Unfortunately due to his military commitment, DjTito could not take advantage of the situation.
After leaving Alaska in 2000, Tito moved to Utah were he was inactive from Djing for 2 years due to family hardships. In 2002, after getting out of the military, and being a free man he moved to Madison, WI to pursue a degree in audio engineering. Tito hooked up with friends from around the area which happened to be involved with music as well. At around the same time he felt that it was time to break out of the shell again and continue what he had begun. In 2003 Tito was doing gigs here and there, but nothing to the extent of what he had accomplished in other places yet he was creating a buzz and a name for himself in his new home town.
In late 2004 the hit songs “Oye Mi Canto”, and “Gasolina” opened the doors for many Reggaeton artists as well as Djs to crossover into the US mainstream. With the knowledge and experience that Tito gained over the years of being involved with Reggaeton, he was put well into the driver’s seat. He began promoting shows as the Dj for LuchaLibre and BreakBread spinning mixsets of Reggaeton, Hiphop, and Dancehall between performances. The groups quickly began to catch popularity as not only were all the songs, beats, and lyrics performed, original, but they also had a Dj who could spin Reggaeton like he’d been doing at his life. His time and dedication to a genre of music which only a limited amount of people had heard of had finally began to pay off. DjTito is now part of the biggest local act out of Madison, WI and draws unheard of numbers of crowds to their events. Tito’s remixes, mixes, and original material has caught international attention via the internet, and he is quickly becoming one of the next highly acclaimed Reggaeton Dj/Producer.
