I have no idea where all this bashing on music started.

Reggaeton as suttle as it may seem on talent and any other critique HAS opened doors on a mainstream level. I also heard about Latino-Rapper Pitbull teaming up with Urban mogul Sean Combs (Puff Daddy, P. Diddy). I think that's a great move for us latinos to expose our culture. This might end up being a trend in the music business where the "Latin Explosion" is reborn again. Remember the days when Ricky Martin alongside many Latino artists blew up on the mainstream market? So many non-latino people took interest to the latin culture and especially the music. Even if people don't consider Reggaeton "True-Latino" music, it IS sung and performed in Spanish. Therefore labelling it Latino music. Who cares if it has influence from the Jamaicans. We should thank them, they have beautiful music. Little did people know that Salsa and Merengue were originally morphed from African tribal music. Maybe people thought that this music made us Latino's wannabe Africans. But no. We made it our own. BUT we DO have to thank the Africans for that. I am also a huge fan of salsa music. It makes up more than 70% of my band's repertoire. But one thing you'll realize in music charts all over, that salsa is becoming really "unpopular". Why? Simple. Times are changing. The youth evolves as trends evolve. That's just the way it is. Reggaeton has made its stamp on our culture and whether it becomes a new breed of music to stay or just another "lambada" phase, that's up to the consumers. If you look at Latino record sales, Reggaeton is right up there with Latin-Pop and Tex-Mex music.

If others have a sort of hate towards this music, it will definately be insignificant no matter what kind of propaganda they throw. Althought Reggaeton is not my favorite kind of music, I do like it. YES alot of it sounds monotonous and repetitive but kids nowadays don't listen to lyrics or anything. It's just a "hook" you'll hear that's catchy and there you have a HIT! I think it should just be accepted to the addition of TONS of beautiful music latinos have. Our culture is so unique, ranges is many different styles but sung in one beautiful language.

Let's just be proud that latino voices are being heard internationally. Reggaeton like it or not, is making much more noise and is gaining much more interest than Salsa, Merengue etc. Will it last? no se. Will is stay? no se. But I can't wait to find out what happens next...lol

P.S. lol...coño, another novela..

For the first time ever, Los Angeles will be witness to the Reggaeton craze with two sold out shows at The Universal Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, 2005. Both shows were sold out within hours of going on sale. The show will feature Daddy Yankee (pictured), Don Omar, Ivy Queen, Hector El Bambino, Luny Tunes and DJ Nelson.

Reggaeton is the latest dance craze – a cross-culture genre of music that has hit Latin clubs in Puerto Rico; has taken a stronghold in the East Coast and has been infiltrating the West Coast the last two years. Reggaeton is influenced by Jamaican music (Reggae); salsa, merengue and by urban hip-hop music – it has been associated with the “underground” movement of urban youth in other Caribbean islands and neighboring nations, including the Dominican Republic, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Nicaragua, etc. More recently, it has surfaced in the United States, particularly in areas with large Puerto Rican concentration of other Hispanics – New York and Miami. It’s taking on a marketing approach much like that of hip-hop at the beginning. Evident by the fact that many multi-platinum hip-hop artists are doing Reggaeton mixes.

Radio stations in the West Coast such as Power 106 (KPWR 105.9 fm) - #1 Los Angeles station and hip-hop leader; Super Estrella (107.1 fm) – Latin youth market leader – are “leading the pack.” The genre has also taken the U.S. Latin music sales charts by storm, There are currently 10 Reggaeton/Latin Rap Albums in the top 50 Soundscan Latin chart including Daddy Yankee at #1, recently honored by the RIAA with five Gold and Platinum albums for his CD “Barrio Fino”, the largest award in the history of Reggaeton music. Daddy Yankee “Barrio Fino;” (#1 in the Latin Billboard Charts) Don Omar “The Last Don: Live Vol.1;” Ivy Queen “Diva Platinum Edition;” and Luny Tunes “La Trayectoria” - all have been nominated for Reggaeton Album Of The Year by Billboard Latin Music Awards 2005.

Universal Music Group has launched Machete Music and appointed Gustavo Lopez as its President in a move to underscore its commitment to expanding new genres of music, particularly in the Latin music area. Machete Music is the first full service, start-up label from a major record company dedicated to the burgeoning music market with a specialty in hip-hop, rap, dance hall and the hottest new movement – Reggaeton. Mr. Lopez is a key player in bringing together the talent for the “Invasion Del Reggaeton” in association with Orjuela Entertainment, Inc

Target understands the importance of music in the lives of their guests and its role in the Latin culture, which is why they are supporting this concert and this emerging music genre. The company is proud to showcase Reggaeton talent and provide guests access to this and other emerging Latin music genres.

OH! YES I DID CUT AND PASTE THIS!! i JUST THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE BEEN OBVIOUS! lol
