in my opinion Argentina did a big mistake making Maradona the coach of the team, the guy is to arrogant and like Mastropiero said he will try to outshine his own players.

The problem with Maradona is that he always says wathever he wants, no matter the consequences. As a player it didn't matter cause all people care was about his performance on the field, but now he needs to understand that his role has changed. He can't go around pointing out   names and critizing, that's not right for a coach, it's work ethics. He needs to learn to be more reserved. That's what a good coach would do. He was put in that role to be an inspiration for the players not to outshine them.

I understand Riquelme's point, although I'm tired of all his threats of quitting (and he is not even in his prime anymore).  I don't even think Argentina needs him anymore.  I don't think Argies need the classic 10 anymore (that was good for clinical players like Crespo, Bati or el Piojo)   with  Messi, Aguero or  Tevez making their own plays, they do better being around of  Cambiasso, Maxi or Gago.

Who knows where the Maradona saga will end, but I don't see him coaching in the WC.  I'm also wondering how his off field relationship with el Aguero will be...Mixing family and business... no.. I hope Aguero no se le de por cachonear a Maradonita!

Great points!!!  I agree with you on Riquelme I think his day has come and gone as well.  I just agree with him on this particular point.

About Maradona I say the same I can't see him coaching during the world cup either.  He will mess it up before then.hmm

So did anyone hear that Juan Roman Riqelme quit the Argentine national team yesterday?

Maradona came out on a talk show criticizing Riquelme a few days ago.  Saying that he wasn't sure if he was injured or what was wrong but that he wasn't fully happy with the way he was playing.

Yesterday Riquelme quit the team saying that knows he can't work with Maradona as a coach.  He mentioned that when Argentina played France he found out VIA the radio that he wasn't playing.  He is also pissed that Maradona would discuss his issues with the media instead of him.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I think he is right.  I know Riquelme has a history of not getting along with coaches but I think he is totally right on this one.  I also think this is the first of many problems Maradona will bring to this team.
