im latino and i aint look latino but i still get pulled ova for no apparent reasons and still get harassed...bein young & a male also contributes alot to the problem, considerin the cops that pulled me over were minorities themselves....

Like Genie mentioned, not just Latinos but any name that is not "wasp". There is racism towards Italians, Greeks, Portuguese, Asians, Turks, Middle Eastern, Slavic, etc.

Awww that's too bad. I hate getting pulled over & getting tickets, it's such a hassle having to go to court. Although I gotta say I've never been treated wrong by any authority & so far ALL my tickets I've gone to court for........I've managed to get my charges withdrawn. lol, lol.......I guess cause I'm a girl......it always helps.

I don't see why ur charges couldn't get withdrawn since you do have a valid license, just show up in court & show them & I think most likely they will pull back charges.

Recently I went to court for 2 tickets I got. Guess what? in the court room they had latinos, blacks, indians and whites. For some reason the cops that gave tickets to the whites all of them did't show up to court. That means that the tickets get dropped when the cop is not present. It seems to happen only to the whites. When I saw the cop that gave me my ticket I also noticed that all the people he stopped were black, latinos, indians. I got pull over just because I drive a new SUV and I'm latino. He also gave me the tickets for not having my papers. Anyhow the good thing was that the assistant to the judge and the prosecuter were black. thankfully all the tickets from this jack ass cop were dropped or taken down to a lesser charge.

I agree with u torontotrucho they is way too much raicsim in toronto and this is a city were there are so many culture.

YEs amigos, We are suspicios of anything many times. Just for being "not white" they think We are more prone to crime or other ilegal behaviour. When a police officer approches me and ask for my paper I always play cool since I have no reason to panic, i haven't been stopped many times; but, I can tell you that if We play cool they may forget all about it, or give you a lesser ticket or lower value.

YEs, there is racism here. But is better to play civilized than being caught in there games, because that's exactly what they want.

How come people driving by Avenue road commit so many traffic violations and there are no police cruiser following them??

Is double standard for sure. Guys , don't let them have a reason to follow you.

kind of off topic like always jajajaja.....i got pulled over last weekend

because i didn't make a complete stop at a red light before turning right. funny thing is that he never gave me a ticket for what i did but instead gave me a ticket for not having my insurance papers. ooops, forgot them at home. anyways, he said to go to court and it will be withdrawaled. the cop was so friendly but i think it has to do with being a female.

Well it's really good for you that you have not been through this!

I know MANY MANY blacks and latinos that have been mistreated by police officers for NO reason at all!!!!! It happens far too often. Don't make the mistake of thinking that because you have not experianced it first hand that it does not happen!

I have been pulled over and so far no complains I have been well trated... all depends of the attitude.... you know to be nice and treat them with courtesy you'll get the same........

There is no doubt in my mind that regardless of what you do on the road or anywhere, for that matter, race plays a BIG card on how the police treat Latinos. I wish it were different, but racism DOES happen and we're still victims of it.

Today is actually International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and there are still so many instances of this happening. With the police, especially, they already have preconceived notions of what us latinos and other non-caucasian races are, and so they will discriminate against us no matter what. I wish there were more police officers of different races, but that'll take a while to happen, won't it?

There's an article int he paper today of some black guy who wanted to play for the NHL 67 years ago and wasn't allowed because he was black. I guess at least we're making some strides, but it'll take double, triple and many more times the effort of people of different races to change the attitudes of those who discriminate against us.

I experience the odd look every day, and I only live minutes from Toronto, in an area that is predominantly white. But I also see the change in attitude of other people who are more open-minded and more accepting, and of organizations who realize that this is a big problem and are promoting campaigns to bring this to the forefront and bring awareness to the issue. What we as Latinos need to do is to try to get more involved in such campaigns.

FYI.......They Do not Need a warrant they can... thay can go thru your car with the simple Suspicion of anything......If they need to perform a search in your house Yes they do need a Search Warrant.....

I know if you started to Argue to the cops they will get nasty and they will give the most stupid reason to go thru your car......and they Will......
