Enjoy it?? It's not a chicken burrito. Who ever wins next year (if there even IS a next year) won't take away from who ever won this year - or in 2004 for that matter ... again creating competition. And even if Ricky's CD's IS incredibly wonderful (which I don't doubt for I'm a fan too.) get it to us fans - for we're the ones voting for this award in particular.

No one member of S.L.U.T. has ever claimed to know it all.

What I do know is that Marcelo has great talent and we are just so lucky for him to share his music with us........and to top it off.....he's a great person...

In fact.....tomorrow night we will be at the TH party supporting Marcelo, his music and fellow musicians....and hey....who knows......We might even end up sharing the stage with him........but you have to come and see it for yourself....

This is seriously an injustice to the CANDIAN-LATINO artists that were nominated and really deserved the award. As a Latino I would like if TH.com (since they sponsored the award) could look into this and hopefuly give the award to an artist that actually qualifies. is tough for musicians out there you know, and having you, does not make it any easier....
don't hate, appreciate.......Aren't you happy that in some sort of way, WE LATINOS are getting some recognition in CANADA for once in our lifes!!!

Whoah....lol....now THAT'S what I call a comeback!!! At least we know now who studied. Marcelo is an amazing talent we have in this city. Be proud that we got a latin category for Christs sake!

Wow! I'm impressed how much of a negative vibe some of these threads generate. Specially having to do with which artist is better or deserves this or that.

Dude, Mr. Anonymous, I know Marcelo personally. I saw him freeze his butt of for three years working retail (GAP Eaton Center - go in the store and ask around) sometimes till 4 AM and 6 AM on Christmas - and still working on demos, writing songs and film scores for indie projects in his studio apartment. The guy did not sleep, determined to write his first solo CD.
I heard these songs at his apartment (College and Yonge) and was there when tracks where recorded (I'm a music engineer - he used a MOTU 896HD interface and Digital Performer 4.1)
He then pitched his material to many labels and management companies here in Toronto. But it was a label in Monterrey Mexico who signed him.

Interestingly enough, Marcelo formed a partnership and SET that label's rep office in Toronto. (Overhead Music). 110% of this album is Canadian. Marcelo loves Toronto. He even talks about Toronto in most of his interviews when he's on tour in Mexico.

His material was good but Overhead Music in Monterrey asked to re-record some tracks in Mexico. Which he did. Like he would pass that up - the chance to record with some of his friends back in sunny Mexico =) And if you know spanish, read around his lyrics... it's all cold and snow.
Yes - 100% of the songwriting was done here. So what was the requirement? - 50% of the nominee's songwriting and recording must be 100% Canadian. - YEP that works.

OHH - more fun facts -

- Marcelo's a member of the Songwriters Asociation of Canada - (SAC http://songwriters.ca) - and has gone to numerous songwriting seminars - which helps support Canadian Songwriters.
- Marcelo's with SOCAN - The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) (http://www.socan.ca)
- Marcelo participated at this year's Canadian Music Week.

If you're going to do your homework - do your homework. You really think they would have let him be one of the nominees? Plus I understand it was the people at The Indies who chose the nominees. THispano was the one who by suggesting talent helped keep the category alive -- so, TH was just a messenger.

We should be thanking Torontohispano.com, fyi .. without them, there wouldn't even be a Favourite Latin Alternative category for you to be complaining about.

Relax man - enjoy the music, support the bands - it's pretty rough out there for them already.

As far as I know from speaking with Marcelo himself...he IS a Landed Immigrant and 100% of his song-writing and recordings were ALL done in Toronto. Please show me where exactly on his website it states that the album was recorded in Mexico. I'm just curious to see this. Thank you.

I recently found out that a few of our local artist were seriously ripped off of an award. I'm talking about the CMW Indie Awards and in particular the Best Latin Alternative Artist Award. Worst of all is that I think TorontoHispano.com may be to blame for this. Let's be clear, TH.com may have not known any better so I'm not chopping heads here.

Ok, So the nominees were:

Favourite Latin Alternative Artist/Group

Eliana Cuevas
Fito Blanko
Marcelo Trevino
Plan C
Santerias
