LAS VEGAS -- A 2-year-old was mauled to death by his familys dog on Wednesday.

 

Metro police said the attack happened Wednesday afternoon at the family's home near North Jones Boulevard and West Washington Avenue.

 

The toddlers grandmother said she was in shock and still trying to figure out what went wrong.

Police said the toddler's grandmother was babysitting him, an infant and two dogs when the attack happened.

 

They said the grandmother was injured trying to pry the mixed breed terrior off of the boy's neck.

 

When the dog finally let go, it was too late.

 

Why do they have the dog they do? Those dogs are no good. They're hard to control. And when they go crazy -- they go crazy, said neighbor Jack Agudo.

 

But Metro said it's not just about the breed. Cassell said you can't take your eyes off a child near any dog for one minute.

 

This is an incident where we know our dogs, and we think we know their temperament. This shows that any dog, at any time, can revert to instinctual behavior, Cassell said.

 

Animal control has both the dogs and its up to them to decide the fate of the animals.

 

The infant was not hurt and is with the parents.
