A 49-year-old Toronto man is facing six fraud charges after allegedly posing as a contractor and stealing more than $230,000 from his clients.

Police say a suspect posed as the owner of Valglobal General Contractors Inc. After entering into a contract with his clients, he demanded large deposits up front and worked at a slow pace.

After most of the money was collected, the suspect would leave the job with the majority of the work unfinished.

Police say the frauds occurred between February 2008 and October 2008. The arrest followed a year-long investigation. Police believe there are more victims.

Charged is Manuel Tomazio, 49, of Toronto. He appeared in court yesterday.
