Sorry, but your cuz is lying.
There's no fliiping way you'd forget spanish after you've spoken it into your 20s. SPECIALLY -of all languages- ITALIAN??!?!?! No way!
My mom moved to Argentina in her late teens. In Argie, it's not like here, where Italians (or whatever) stuck/stick to Italians and only hang amongst themselves. So you better learn to speak spanish if you want to speak to your Polish/German/Spaniard/etc, neighbour (no matter how bad an accent)
My mom speaks "Argie" to the point where you would never know she ever spoke anything else, BUT she has NEVER forgotten Italian.... even after not being back in Italy after nearly 40 years
