I have all season tires, should i get winter tires?
all season tires are good for every other season BUT WINTER.
there is a difference between winter and snow tires. winter tires are good, but snow Tires are particulary for extream weather conditions, specially in city like Quebec, whitehorse, yellowknife. AND TORONTO. mechanics recomend the snow tires due to their resistance. they last 6 yrs.
Not sure if this is what they/you mean, but... I know that NARROWER tires work better in snow. They "pierce" through snow better, and less chance of "hydroplaning". I'm guessing that's what they're talking about when they say "smaller" As for getting a diff size.... You can't change the last dimension (R15) 'cause that's the size of your rim. The other two dimensions you can change: The first one is the width of your tire in millimeters. The second dimension is the wall of your tire. The "65" translates into 65% of your tire width (195 x 65%= wall height) You would want to stay as close to the original wall height as possible (in mm's not percentage. It will never be right on, but try to stay as close as possible) because of your speedometer and transmission (bigger wheel= more top speed, but less torque. Smaller wheel= more torque, but less top speed) although it won't kill your transmission it's probably not a great thing to do to it.... but your speedometer will definitely not give an accurate reading if your overall wheel size is way off from factory, so try to stay as close as possible. So pull out the calculator and you can figure out what size to get. If you want to go just a little narrower, I'm guessing you're probably looking at a 185/70/R15. If you want to go even narrower, I'm not sure. You'd have to figure it out Hope it makes sense.
PS. Just in case, ask your tire supplier
