Holy $2000.  Wow, it shouldnt be, since like you said, it's a very straight forward divorce.  No property to divide, custody access im sure is already outlined in the separation agreement.  I think all you need to pay is the cost to file it, which would be around $200 but that's it.  What kind of lawyer are you dealing with?

I still dont understand why you are using a lawyer though.  The separation agreement is something you can modify yourself, or get a friend who has some legal expertise.  You dont need to go trhough a lawyer, especially cause like you said, you and the ex get along well and did everything on amicable terms.  I can e-mail you a draft of one i have, and all you do is modify it and that should hold up in court.  Also, you need to fill out the appropriate forms and just check off that it's a simple divorce.  In the separtion agreement you detail all the custody and payment info, and the judge should be fine with that.

Under the circumstances, I think we're both quite 'satisfied customers' (happy). I never gave her any greef, and vice versa. We're just trying to get everything straight. A formality so we can move on if we wanted to.
Truth be told, she's a good woman and a good mom, so I'm quite happy that it was THIS woman that I ended up separating from, as opposed to some whack job that went psycho at the hint of separation
Also, I'm probably one of the only guys that ended up getting ahead, financially, out of a separation (not because I took her to the cleaners, BTW. Just circumstances, but that's for another thread)
