I have a notebook where I write down all my expenses. I tried to limit myself to no more than $50 cash withdrawls a week. I also have a spread sheet which I update at the beggining of every month and it is like my "monthly budget". It helps me a lot since I know where my money should be going every month.
I've tried charting it on a excel table etc but for some reason I like charting my stuff on my calender.
Down to the basics lol. I keep track of the automatic withdrawal by looking it online (doing transfers online, payments etc), checking it off my calender and keeping track of my balance in the same calender.
Few months I got this software Quicken and it's awesome ...you can track all your expenses, set up credit cards, loans, properties, debts, investments, auto expenses also you can create your budget and follow it, and it shows you where you are over spending, your cash flow and if you have a small biz you can manage in there....
The set up maybe a bit painful and you need to spend time entering your data on regular basis but I think is a good tool.
