No cheese is being produced at the plant as there is ongoing work with the CFIA to try to pinpoint the cause of the listeria, and the very, very thorough cleaning continues, said Ivanhoe/Gay Lea Foods spokeswoman Leslie Wood, Monday.
The cheese is not made with unpasteurized milk, she said.
They start with raw milk but they pasteurize it right there before they make the cheese, Wood said.
Listeria is the same bacteria that was found in Maple Leaf cold cuts and is linked to at least 12 deaths. However, there is no proof that the listeria in Ivanhoe Cheese is the same strain as that found in Maple Leaf processed meats.
