I just double checked by calling Plaza (416-603-8884). The game starts at 4:40 pm, and they are charging $5. For those who don't want to pay the $5, I think Latin Fiesta and Motivos on St. Clair do not charge anything... at least they didn't Saturday.

BUENOS AIRES -- Apretaditos, apretaditos. Eso es lo que puede definir la situación actual de las eliminatorias sudamericanas. Seis equipos separados por cuatro puntos, es una situación inusual. Y que el puntero, Paraguay, tenga 14 unidades sobre los 21 que estuvieron en juego, también es algo raro. Y si a esto le sumamos que Argentina y Brasil, los máximos favoritos a conseguir un lugar en Sudáfrica 2010, apenas obtuvieron 12 puntos, con tres triunfos, tres empates y una derrota cada uno, ya es demasiado.
En definitiva, las eliminatorias todavía están en un proceso de reacomodamiento, en donde los equipos van definiendo sus diferentes pretensiones.
Siempre que estamos entre una fecha y otra, nos encontramos frente a la misma dualidad. ¿Comentamos lo que pasó o miramos hacia adelante? En este caso, vamos a analizar los partidos que vienen, aprovechando los antecedentes inmediatos para comentar, al pasar, parte de lo ocurrido.

PARAGUAY-VENEZUELA
Paraguay está en alza y Venezuela parece haberse topado con su techo. El empate de los de Gerardo Martino de Buenos Aires, tal como lo admitió su propio entrenador, tiene más valor por lo numérico que por la actuación que cumplió el equipo, que de pronto se encontró con todo para ganar y desperdició una oportunidad histórica. Quedó la sensación de el pasado pesó más que el presente, de que Paraguay jugó preso de su tradición (garra, defensa férrea, control, contraataque) en lugar de ir a liquidar un partido en el que Argentina, por su propia tendencia a complicarse la vida, le había servido en bandeja.
Venezuela por el contrario, le dio la espalda a las declamaciones previas, en la que su entrenador y sus jugadores decían que iban a ganar a Lima. ¿Qué fue lo que pasó? Nada extraordinario. Perú salió a jugar sus cartas con buenas artes, a presionar, a buscar, a aprovechar, tal vez, una de las últimas chances de despegar. Y Venezuela, como le viene pasando últimamente, fue un equipo sin alma, demasiado apurado, atado y con una gran incapacidad: no puede jugar con la piel del candidato. No se banca esa situación.

Paraguay sacó un buen resultado pero no jugó bien

Ahora bien, ¿qué puede pasar entre un equipo en alza y otro en baja? Por como están las cosas, cualquier cosa. Porque Paraguay, más allá de ese resultado fantástico en Buenos Aires, deberá recomponer su imagen, ya que hay que coincidir con que no jugó bien. Y Venezuela, ahora sí, podrá jugar en la situación que más le gusta. Tendrá la chance de salir a trabajar el partido de contraataque, sin la obligación de buscar, sabiendo que una derrota es un resultado lógico.

URUGUAY-ECUADOR
El equipo de Tabárez le armó el partido soñado a Colombia. Le enredó el juego, le complicó las salidas, le cerró las puertas y golpeó en el momento indicado. Fue impecable. Y con ello sumó tres puntos que valen el doble, justamente porque los obtuvo como visitante y ante un adversario directo.
Ecuador no jugó un gran partido ante Bolivia, pero hay que admitir que la prioridad estaba puesta en ganar el partido antes que lucir. No necesariamente estos dos asuntos deben está disociados, pero muchas veces ocurre, y hay que aceptarlo.
En el choque entre ellos hay un favorito claro: Uruguay. Pero cuidado con las réplicas de Ecuador, que tiene jugadores muy potentes de tres cuartos de cancha hacia adelante y podría llegar a complicarle la vida, especialmente si los uruguayos pierden el orden y se desbordan, algo que habitualmente les ocurre cuando juegan en el Centenario.
El exceso de "garra" o "huevos" como más les guste definirlo, muchas veces le juega en contra a Uruguay.

CHILE-COLOMBIA

Colombia tiene que levantar sí o sí ante Chile

Lo dijimos en la previa: Chile debía tener cuidado de tres cuartos de cancha para atrás. No lo tuvo. Y pagó muy caro, con otra derrota dolorosa, en su noche ante Brasil.
A Colombia, por el contrario, le pasó lo que ya se veía venir. Todos los recaudos que toma Pinto para defender su arco limitan claramente el fútbol ofensivo de su equipo y, hoy por hoy, esta postura, se convierte en un pelotazo en contra para las chances de llegar a Sudáfrica.
Los equipos golpeados, como Chile y Colombia, tienen dos posibilidades. O cambian o mantienen su idea de juego y apuestan las últimas fichas a la nobleza de sus convicciones.
No tenemos dudas de que los dos van a mantener su idea de juego. Chile va a salir a atacar y Colombia va a salir a defenderse sin pudores. Cada uno, morirá con sus ideas. ¿Está bien? No nos gustan los dogmas, pero en este caso no hay nada que hacerle.
Chile tiene más chances de llevarse los tres puntos, siempre y cuando no repita las mismas conductas que ya lo llevaron a fracasar ante Paraguay y Brasil. Hay que atacar, claro, pero el equilibrio es una de las condiciones necesarias para tener éxito en este asunto del fútbol.
Defendiendo a lo loco, no se va a ninguna parte. Atacando a lo loco, tampoco. Hay que saber manejar los tiempos y ser inteligente. En el fútbol, la inteligencia, es una de las cosas más complicadas de conseguir. Esto corre tanto para Chile como para Colombia. El más inteligente, va a ganar. No hay dudas.

BRASIL-BOLIVIA
¿Qué se puede decir de este partido? Bolivia debe tratar de salir lo menos dañado posible de este choque. Otra goleada sería letal para su autoestima.
Brasil, en estas situaciones, es un equipo peligrosísimo. Con el ánimo por las nubes, con Dunga más o menos convencido de poner a los mejores jugadores (¡por fin de dejó de hacer inventos raros!), la avalancha de goles puede ser una realidad.
No queremos dejar pasar la oportunidad de decir dos cosas:

Platini Sánchez quedó expulsado y frustrado

1) Dunga salvó su cabeza, contra todos los pronósticos, apostando a los buenos jugadores. ¿Cuántos problemas se habría evitado si hubiera tomado esta decisión desde el comienzo de su ciclo?
2) Bolivia, por su baja condición futbolística es un equipo que arranca la mayoría de sus choques en desventaja. ¿Es necesario que además le piten en contra? El arbitraje de Pablo Pozo fue muy malo. Y decisivo. Porque el penal que le dio a Ecuador fue una vergüenza. Esto no quiere decir que Ecuador no haya merecido ganar. Sólo quiere decir que no necesitaba semejante ayuda.

PERÚ-ARGENTINA
Perú sacó a relucir la garra que tanto se le estaba pidiendo y, sin sobrarle nada, sacó tres puntos redentores ante Venezuela. El equipo del Chemo del Solar, con tantos problemas, merecía una reivindicación de este tipo. Sus actuaciones no habían sido tan desastrosas como lo marcaba su ubicación en la tabla.
Argentina, que debería evitar marearse en una calesita, llega a este juego como favorito porque el equipo está herido después de cuatro partidos sin ganar, dos de ellos en Buenos Aires.
Ahora el debate en Argentina se circunscribe a su Basile debe poner a una referencia de área, a un jugador como Batistuta, Crespo o Cruz, para citar a los protagonistas de este lugar en la última década.

El equipo de Farías no levanta cabeza

Recordemos que con ese sistema (Batistuta, Crespo o Cruz en el centro de área) Argentina lleva 22 años sin ser campeón del Mundo. Lo que refuerza la idea de Basile de probar con otro tipo de jugadores, tales los casos de Tévez, Messi, Agüero, De María y tantos otros...
Varias cosas quedaron claras por su propio peso, lamentablemente por expulsiones, lesiones o goles en contra.
1) Carrizo debe ocupar el arco de Argentina. El tiempo de Abbondanzieri ya pasó.
2) Heinze no puede jugar como marcador de punta. Es central. Y si no tiene lugar en ese puesto, debe ir a banco.
3) Zanetti debe ser marcador de punta. Como volante, sin recorrido, se enrieda y complica cada uno de los ataques de Argentina.
4) Alguien le debe decir a Tevez que hay una diferencia muy grande entre ser referente futbolístico y guapo. Tevez debe olvidarse de Fuerte Apache y del aguante. Las patadas, tirarse al piso y poner planchas descalificadoras, poco tienen que ver con un futbolista de su categoría.
5) Messi es útil no solo cuando tiene la pelota, sino cuando entrega pases. Si aprende esto, será un número uno.

LA SÍNTESIS
Ya dijimos que todos están muy juntos. También seguimos sosteniendo que Paraguay, Brasil y Argentina tienen sus lugares asegurados en el Mundial.
Después de esta fecha, queda claro que el lugar y medio que queda vacante lo van a pelear Uruguay, Chile, Colombia y Ecuador.
Y que, salvo que el panorama cambie radicalmente, Venezuela, Perú y Bolivia deben apuntar a consolidar sus proyectos sin poner demasiadas expectativas en ir al Mundial. No es una ofensa decir eso. Aunque debemos admitir que la mayor decepción, hasta ahora, es Venezuela. Había muchas expectativas puestas en la vinotinto. Y día a día, el equipo de César Farías nos sigue bajando los brazos.

En mi opinion Chile perdio por confiado, Bielsa admitio su culpa, nos paso lo mismo contra Paraguay, Brasil solo espero a Chile y contragolpeo, pudo haber hecho muchos mas goles, el ekipo Chileno es muy joven para jugar de igual a igual con los mejores del mundo, aun les falta mucha experiencia, eso kedo demostrado.

Chile tiene varios jugadores buenos y maduros que Bielsa ha dejado fuera de la seleccion como Pizarro de la Roma, Jimenez del Inter, Villanueva del Blackburn, etc y ha optado por este ekipo joven mucho mas dinamico pero ke carece potencia, los demas salen a defenderse contra Brasil, Paraguay, y Argentina, Chile no, y eso nos ha pasado la cuenta. Asi ke a los demas ratones ke kedan felices con un empate, cosa de ellos, Bielsa lo dijo desde un principio, el prefiere perder atacando ke entrar a defenderse.

Southamerican futbol is even...no matter who plays (excluding Bolivia and Peru) the outcomes are unpredictable....good teams with so little spots for the WC hmm

...We should push FIFA to join the CONCACAF and CONMEBOL (there is only one America, why 2 different tournaments?) and then more spots combined, so that would granted better soccer in the World Cup, and less equipos de relleno..they have almost the same number of spots with the lowest level of futbol....I guess is the only way they can grant the US a spot in the world cup

Argentina 3 games tied at home?? with so much talent ... La momia Basile is taking Argentina from the top team in the world to the same mediocre team they were went he was the coach in the 90's...I hope they cut his head off soon!

Si Chile jugo como ekipo de barrio entonces el partido de este miercoles sera entre dos ekipos de barrio, pk Colombia no mostro absolutamente nada!

En mi opinion Chile perdio por confiado, Bielsa admitio su culpa, nos paso lo mismo contra Paraguay, Brasil solo espero a Chile y contragolpeo, pudo haber hecho muchos mas goles, el ekipo Chileno es muy joven para jugar de igual a igual con los mejores del mundo, aun les falta mucha experiencia, eso kedo demostrado.

Chile tiene varios jugadores buenos y maduros que Bielsa ha dejado fuera de la seleccion como Pizarro de la Roma, Jimenez del Inter, Villanueva del Blackburn, etc y ha optado por este ekipo joven mucho mas dinamico pero ke carece potencia, los demas salen a defenderse contra Brasil, Paraguay, y Argentina, Chile no, y eso nos ha pasado la cuenta. Asi ke a los demas ratones ke kedan felices con un empate, cosa de ellos, Bielsa lo dijo desde un principio, el prefiere perder atacando ke entrar a defenderse.

thats true the standings are so close is not even funny, something tells me is going to come down to the last game for a lot of the teams.......

Yeah, I haven't been to any eliminatorias games... they are always en Quito and I have never set foot en esa ciudad aun... no family there.

we can either tie or beat uruguay ..remember we were beating argentina 1-0 en su casa ..until the defence messed up and they scored right at the end....
