It's one of the busiest intersections in all of Toronto. And starting Thursday, it's about to get a lot more interesting for those trying to cross it.
August 28th is the day the so-called pedestrian scramble comes to Yonge and Dundas for the first time, and traffic downtown may never quite be the same. The new signals will have every light at the corner red for a time so those on foot can cross in all directions at once - including diagonally.
Officials claim the idea has been used successfully elsewhere and is proven to reduce problem between pedestrians and drivers as both try to navigate the increasingly crowded Toronto streets.
