Not useless at all. We gotta pay respect where it's due. The other two stars were Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper (Famous radio DJ). It's still considered one of the biggest tragedies in music history.

Just a little trivia for you guys: Today marks the 46th anniversary that Richie Valenz and the other two rock & roll musicians died in a plane crash. The line in that song, "the day the music died" is in reference to that fact.
