Althou I got it paid by my parents, I wouldn't give my child one, unless it was those controled phones LG put pics up of.

Plus my kid wouldn't be anywhere I wouldn't know, cus i will stock them.

 Jajaja
I used to have a pager back in my days. I thought i was cool cause not that many of my friends had one.

Anyhoo, when my son reaches the perfect age to use one (maybe 10 or 11) i'll definately get him one. It's very useful. I got my parents one last year cause they didn't feel the need they wanted one. Now they call me from like everywhere they go UGH hmm

Yeah I'll totally get one for Chilenita Jr.  Why not?

My daughter has one.  But it's a very simple phone (no camera, or MP3), it's on a pay as you go, and she can only use it to call in case of emergencies.

The only thing I may consider givin my kids is a 3 button phone, which is good for 911, something else & u can record one number for emegency & in this case it would be mine. It's very cheap & I've seen it at telus.

Other then this NADA.

I think a good age is when they occasionally start staying home alone, come home from school by themselves, or go out (biking, etc) with friends
As reluctant as I'd be to give them that "luxury", I think it's a great safety accesory. And of course it would be one of those limited access (four numbers, or whatever) numbers only, type of phone

Cell phone companies are in fact targeting KIDS nowadays.  Read this article HERE

There are those phones that the parent can program 2 or 3 numbers (mom, dad, emergency) on the phone for their kids.  But how often are you really sending your kids out somewhere where your kids don't have access to a pohne?  I mean, they are likely going with an adult to supervise them anyways - borrow a cell, or use the pay phone, kiddo!  Besides,half/most of the time, the kiddo will be going out with either mom or dad!

No real need till they are in their mid teens and they start going out further than the backyard on their own.

Well i got one for my brother when he graduated grade 8 so he would of been 13-14yrs old and we got one under two conditions 1- he was to obey the plan rules and if he even went over a penny he had to pay for it! 2- he was to keep it on vibrate or sound off during school hours! if any teacher called us saying anything then we had the right to take it away from him!!

I think that when you give them a cell phone they have to obey the rules plus now a days there are so many custom plans for users that you can get free hours during the timeframe that they will use it at and since now a days its all about texting then you can customize there plans! Or add them to yours!

the reason why i say 15 is because, a year later they will have their
licence, and soon after that a part time job at least. and you are right
he will pay his own bill.
i think is important to communicate with your teen and know his whereabouts.

Me: But what do you need it for?
Offspring: To call my friends' after school, of course, Daddy! :putspuppyfacesmiley:
Me: You've got the house phone for that!
Offspring: But how about when I am outside the house?
Me: Then you can wait till you get home or if it's URGENT, like to talk about Hannah Montana and stuff, you can always borrow mine!
Offspring: But that's not cool... I wanna have MY OWN cell phone.
Me: There are many things that I want to have of my own, and I gotta work for them, Baby. You don't NEED a cell phone for now. We'll consider it again when you are older...
Offspring: But dddaaadddddddddddddddddyyyyyyy
Me: End of story, unless you got $ to pay for it.
Offspring: That's not fair.

ME: Where do I sign? giggle.gif
Offspring: Are you serious daddy?  You getting me one?
