RIGHT!!!! Oh and the case wasn't dropped he was reprimanded. Sounds wierd to me. I wouldn't let him near my daughter that's for sure. hmm

Appeal Status: No Appeal Appeal Date: Summary: 1 The Discipline Committee finds that Dr. Eleazar Humberto Noriega engaged in an act or acts of professional misconduct under paragraph 51(1)(b.1) of the Health Professions Procedural Code which is schedule 2 to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, S.O. 1991, c. 18, as amended, in that he engaged in the sexual abuse of a patient; The Discipline Committee finds that Dr. Noriega committed an act of professional misconduct under paragraph 1(1)33 of Ontario Regulation 856/93 made under the Medicine Act, 1991, in that he has engaged in conduct or an act relevant to the practice of medicine that, having regard to all the circumstances, would reasonably be regarded by members as disgraceful, dishonourable, or unprofessional. Therefor the Discipline Committee Orders and directs that: 1. Dr. Noriega to attend before the Discipline Committee to be reprimanded; 2. that Dr. Noriega's certificate of registration be suspended for a period of 18 months commencing on a date to be set by the Registrar between January 1 and February 14, 2004, nine months of which shall be suspended if Dr. Noriega successfully completes the College Medical Ethics and Informed Consent Course and the College Boundary Course; 3. that Dr. Noriega will not examine any female patient unless accompanied by a member of the College of Nurses of Ontario or the CPSO, or where the patient is less than 12 years of age, a parent or guardian; and 3. that the results of this proceeding be included in the Register. * At the completion of the hearing Dr. Noriega waived his right to appeal and the reprimand was administered. *

So what's the doctor's nationality? And how come I've never heard of him? LIke, he's not one of the usual Guia Latina doctors.

There is always more to the story than the media can get info on... Sometimes the media does get missinformation and things that media put out there are not always true, of course.
Without knowing or having dealt with this particular doctor would be hard for any of us to make any kind of judgement - but also, as the saying goes: "where there is smoke, there is fire".
Reminds me of the case of that photographer, Pedro Cedeño, where he had many supporters behind him... Even after several accusations, they made him a party to raise funds for him - Anyone hear any news on that case?

Licence suspended for 18 months? that sure resolved things. Poor little girl is probrably going to be screwed up mentally/emotionaly for life- being sexually assaulted really wires a person to be dysfunctional later in life. Though the charges are 'alleged' I'm sure he did it and now she's lost her innocence, so sad. The saddest part is someone probrably tormented him when he was small and so the cycle continues...

A doctor who was previously barred from examining female patients without supervision was back in court Monday facing new charges.

Toronto police arrested Dr. Eleazar Noriega, 63, on Saturday after an eight-year-old girl complained following an examination conducted last week.

Noriega has been charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.

In 2004, the physician had his medical licence suspended for 18 months for sexually abusing a patient.

Investigators believe there may be other victims and they're asking anyone who's had contact with Noriega to contact them at 416-808-2205, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
