Yeah, people at my workplace can be racist, but I've noticed that a lot of it is due to ignorance. I'm lucky that this place has been (not so much anymore) built on the spirit of multiculturalism, but the positions of power, like everywhere else, are held mostly by caucasians.

Yeah when you were in your 7 years old very tense life....Dora la exploradora can be stressful sometimes.
@LIGIG...that comparrison is kind of silly. Nobody would go to an interview dressed like "B"......it would be like you putting on a typical Ecuador folkclore type outfit and going for an interview......
and what do you have against the typical Ecuadorean folkclore outfit????
NADA I am just thinking you might not get the job looking like that
Oh interesting fact (to me)....I think I have a thing for your prez....he is hot!

sometimes it aint even to discret...i remember in highschool the porkchops and the latinos would beef with eachother constantly....name calling and insults of all kinds .....i never got into any of those race cliques cuz i had tons of portuguese friends ..
ohh no not like that lol....i call all my porkchop boys all sorts of names but its cause we all know eachother well..in good fun
it got out of hand in highschool before when there were portuguese cliques mckormick boys ,mc gregor boys, st clair boys would team up and fight the LA'S or any other latino who looked like a gangster.....seriously they would pick on any hispanic and bug the ish out of him ....considering bishop morroco brother edmund rice romero west T.O etc etc were all majority dominated by portuguese and italians.....

no not in any of my jobs..i find the work place to be at a racism free type of tip only cuz u work with all sorts of coworkers so u are forced to get along with everyone talk to everyone etc etc...
as for racism elsewhere? helll yeaaaah no matter if its ok on a locke level people still show how prejudice they r in certain ways....

theres even racism and all kinds of prejudice among latinos.....lets not beat around the bush......lots of south americans dont like to associate with central americans ...particularly salv's cuz they think they r too ghetto gangsters and pyschos....argentinos pick on peruvians ecuadorians bolivians and anyone else who aint " european looking like them" costa ricans think they r better then other central americans ....other latinos view dominicans as typical black and lazy bla bla bla etc etc etc......
funny how asians blacks and europeans r more united if u think of it
@ Colo - "Well, i dont see any "obvious" racisim, but you can tell that the "blancos" here seem to look down on anyone who isnt." By definition....that's racism.
I know. I guess it's not the right response, but we kind of become "immune" to stuff like that. What i mean by not obvious is that they are not exactly going around calling us "dumb spics" or that i can say that someone here doesent get promoted or good opportunities because of their race.
There is an asian girl that sits beside and all we do is bug each other about our races. But again, we both know that it's all in good fun.

@ Dogo - Black guy with 4 years experience. White guy with no experience. White guy gets hired...and the black guy has to train him Right? Wrong? Whatever.
@ Playero - I don't live in a bubble. Obviously it still exists. The question was if it was evident at your work place from you point of view. Thanks!

You don't find it a bit prejudice/racist that they overlooked a few qualified 'coloured' employees in their staff...and went with the untrained 'white' guy?!?!?
Let me say that I'm not all super political on this issue.....I think companies get a bad rep when hiring white employees.....I personally think that a company should hire whomever they friggin want......
The thread was from the guards point of view and how he sees thing.
Just wondering if you all see/feel the same way at your workplace.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh duh! Okay I get it now!!!
Yes that seems VERY stupid. The should of just hired within. Mind you perhaps the black guards are slackers. Just because they can train the guy on certain things does not mean they are supervisor material. Yes? No? I DON"T KNOW

Well, i dont see any "obvious" racisim, but you can tell that the "blancos" here seem to look down on anyone who isnt. For example, my friend and I, who are the only hispanics here, at times get stupid comments made at us that because we're spanish, we live near J & F, bla bla bla. It will be said as a "joke" but you can sense the hint of "truth" in their comments. We just laugh it off and come up with a smart ass remark that will usually shut them up and leave them like this

OK - ahora que explicas, entiendo... It MAY be racism/prejudice... or it may just be "connections" - often people hire "friends / relatives" or people they know... It doesn't make it right, but it changes the reasoning behind it - I.E.: Not necesarily racism.
What I do often see, is people of colour assume that racism is behind a lot more stuff than it may be. Some overplay the "racism" card... I'm not saying there is not racism; there sure is.
