Moreover if you want to see typically Quebecer (french canadian stuff...I mean culture and restaurant) you can hit Rue St-Denis.
Some french lessons: Rue = calle Metro = Subway station Dépanneur = Convienient store Merci Beaucoup = Thank you very much Bonjour = Hi, Hello
Advice: Quebecer apreciate very much when people are trying to speak french even though your french may not be perfect. They'll be more willing to help you out. People here are very down to earth (except maybe in the downtown area ). The east part of Montreal people mainly speak french and on the west part of Mtl in english. Immigrant are spread all over the city. Don't be surprise to see some immigrant who speaks french and not english and vice-versa. And also immigrant who speaks french, english and their mother tongue language. This province is completely different from the rest of the country in terms of life style. One more thing if you are driving here: On Red light you cannot turn right !
X4v13r wrote: well if u r staying downtown, i hope u got ur parking included with ur room, also montreal is pretty much dead during this time, (princessa and i went just before winter and let me tell u is nothing like summer), if u do go out to look around no1 will be in the street but in the underground mall, (we didn't know this till the next day ), old Montreal is not the same but the indoors tourist areas are open. A restaurant that princessa and I liked was the 3 amigos, it has the same idea like a jackasters not a bad place to eat. I know there is more but can't remember at the moment.

Where's the indoor mall? What's it called? And where's the restaurant? Is it authentic latino or one of those chains, like Taco Bell? How about stores? Don't montrealers sell better or more varied latin products than what we find here in Toronto?
Being myself a Montrealer, I'm going to give you some advice. The indoor (underground) mall...in fact there are 3. The names are 'Les Promenades de la Cathédrales', then you got 'Les Cours Mont-Royal' and also you got 'Place Montréal Trust'. These 3 underground mall are in the heart of downtown between Place Des Arts and Peel metro station (green line metro station) and there is another one at 'Place Bonaventure' at Bonaventure metro station (orange line metro station). Shopping, restaurant and partying in Montreal is quite cheap...that's what we hear often from tourist who come in this city visiting.
Food section: Montreal is known for the poutine, smoke meat and bagel. You can find poutine in almost any restaurant or fast food chains. Famous place for smoke meat...you MUST try Schwartzs Deli on St-Laurent street ( www.schwartzsdeli.com ) and also bagels at Fairmount Bagel Bakery on 74Fairmount Ouest at the corner of St-Laurent street. ( www.fairmountbagel.com ) Hispanic food section: Reach metro station Jean-Talon and you'll find a huge selection of latino restaurant and shop (especially on St-Hubert street and also en la calle Bélanger al rincon de la calle St-Denis ) lots of peruvian restaurants and mexican restaurant en mayoria. mas info en ( www.montrealhispano.net ) y ( www.elchasquilatino.com ) .....by the way buy a map of the city because after Toronto ....Montreal is the biggest city in Canada (population in the city itself: 2 million people )
Lots of people in the street partying and enjoying highlight and food even though it is the coldest temperature during winter. como prueba mira el sitio ( www.montrealenlumiere.com ) you'll love it.

I'm assuming that most of you have been to Montreal? I need pointers. We're doing the whole tourist deal (definitely no nightclubs) as it's a famille voyage for a few days. What's good in terms of restaurants, touristy places, shopping (though I doubt we'll be doing much of that either), latin stuff to do, etc, etc, etc.
The kids might like the Biodome, Insectarium and the tower at Olympic stadium. See if the Canadiens have a hockey game while you're there.
Someone mentioned Shwarz and I second that - you should really try it!
Eat a Shwarema..tons of arabs in Montreal that make authentic shwaremas
also, check out a deli called SCHWARTZ (http://www.schwartzsdeli.com/)... i hear they have the best montreal smoked meat sandwich you;ll ever eat
I know of a restaurant where the food is cheap and good, i always go there when i go to montreal, i took pricessa there when we went, i can't remember the name or where it is but u can find them everywhere but the one I'm talking about is on the corner street and on the second floor is really nice, i can't remember but i know princessa will
~X
yeah, I'll be sure to check out every corner of every street in Montreal... thanks...

Good for you, Buffster... Xcept it may make it much easier to look stuff up (places to visit, directions, phone # online, etc) while at the hotel... Convenience at your fingertips.
That's why I'm trying to get my info beforehand. At the hotel I can ask the receptionist. Or people, non?
Oui, Mademoisselle, C'est tres verdades! LOL Basic French may also come in handy.

Will help you with Foro withdrawal Syndrome!
Yeah, no... I try to make most of my weekends as computer-less as possible, so no laptops for me in Montréal.
@ Xavier: Great tips. Thanks!

The mall you guys are talking about is a the bonaventure metro station, if you want to go bananas shopping go at la rue st-catherine many stores, bars, restaurants. Best place to try a poutine "La belle Province", try the Montreal Smoked meat sandwiches they are to die for!
