Like anything else, I'm sure there are pros and cons when it comes to MJ... it's not fore everyone; but it is one of the (or "THE") less harmful recreational drugs out there.

Yeah! I know a girl who smoked it while going through Chemo treatments and it helped her very much.

My mom had cancer and when I saw her going through treatment I had to ask her if she would try it. When she was at her absolute sickest point I had her convinced. She said "I suppose you can get me some" and I said "I have some right now"...she chickened out. I think it was more because I offered it during her last round of radiation. Had she had even one more round she would have smoked. It's too bad she had the typical opinion anyone fromt the old school has re: pot...it would have made her treatment so much easier. hmm

In medical school when alcohol Prohibition ended, he saw first-hand the debilitating economic and social costs of that failed policy. He knows that the war on drugs is doing the same thing to us today. At an October 19, 1995 news conference, when asked if marijuana was more dangerous than aspirin, Dr. Robins said: "I don't believe that it is. The only thing dangerous about marijuana is that it is illegal."

Recreational Facts

During the 1930s, the American media propagated numerous false stories as marijuana facts and depicted weed as an extremely dangerous drug, thus marijuana and hemp were effectively banned in 1937 and incredibly it is still band today. It was said if you got high with marijuana you would go crazy and kill someone, possibly your whole family. It's absurd that people would believe this crap.

Out of all the drugs that we use for recreational purposed marijuana is definitely the safest. The lies that were told and still told about marijuana having an effect on you strong enough to make you kill, well think about these stories. They are kinda true except not with marijuana but with the most popular recreational drug ALCOHOL. You can drink, blackout and kill someone and not even know it happened. Blacking out is when a person gets to hammered and can't remember anything that happened. This happens quite often. How many murders have you seen in the news where the killer was drinking, now how many times have you seen the same when someone was high on marijuana, NEVER.

And if marijuana is as bad as they say it is and it causes so many problems, why don't we hear any of this on the news. I'm mean you don't see any crimes related to marijuana, you don't hear, "car was stolen because guy was high on weed", or "store robbed because man was stoned." No you don't hear this because it doesn't happen. The only way marijuana is on the news is if its someone being busted with it or a grow operation. So now all the government has accomplished is turning that person into a criminal.

All I'm trying to say is that people should really find out the facts about something before stating an opinion. Just because the government says its not good for you, think again, they not the brightest bunch to begin with anyway's. The government has known for many many years that marijuana is safe, but because they have been saying its bad for so long and spent so much of your money trying to wipe it out, its kinda hard to say we were wrong.

Here are a few numbers I found, checkem' out.

Marijuana Causes Lung Disease

The Claim:
It is frequently claimed that marijuana smoke contains such high concentrations of irritants that marijuana users' risk of developing lung disease is equal to or greater than that of tobacco users.

The Facts:
Except for their psychoactive ingredients, marijuana and tobacco smoke are nearly identical. Because most marijuana smokers inhale more deeply and hold the smoke in their lungs, more dangerous material may be consumed per cigarette. However, it is the total volume of irritant inhalation - not the amount in each cigarette - that matters.

Most tobacco smokers consume more than 10 cigarettes per day and some consume 40 or more. Regular marijuana smokers seldom consume more than three to five cigarettes per day and most consume far fewer. Thus, the amount of irritant material inhaled almost never approaches that of tobacco users.

Frequent marijuana smokers experience adverse respiratory symptoms from smoking, including chronic cough, chronic phlegm, and wheezing. However, the only prospective clinical study shows no increased risk of crippling pulmonary disease (chronic bronchitis and emphysema).

Since 1982, UCLA researchers have evaluated pulmonary function and bronchial cell characteristics in marijuana-only smokers, tobacco-only smokers, smokers of both, and non-smokers. Although they have found changes in marijuana-only smokers, the changes are much less pronounced than those found in tobacco smokers.

The nature of the marijuana-induced changes were also different, occurring primarily in the lung's large airways - not the small peripheral airways affected by tobacco smoke. Since it is small-airway inflammation that causes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, marijuana smokers may not develop these diseases.

In an epidemiological survey, approximately 1200 subjects gave information on smoking and pulmonary function at two-year intervals. A large percentage of the subjects underwent pulmonary function testing. Although a small group who reported previous marijuana smoking had significant pulmonary abnormalities, current marijuana smokers had no significant reduction in any pulmonary functions.

There are no epidemiological or aggregate clinical data suggesting that marijuana-only smokers develop lung cancer. However, since some bronchial cell changes appear to be pre-cancerous, an increased risk of cancer among frequent marijuana smokers is possible.

Since the pulmonary risks associated with marijuana are related to smoking, the danger is eliminated with other routes of administration. For committed smokers, pulmonary risk might be reduced with higher-potency products, which produce desired psychoactive effects with less inhalation of irritants. Smokers could also be encouraged to abandon deep inhalation and breath-holding, which increase drug delivery only slightly. Finally, pulmonary risk might be reduced if marijuana were smoked in water pipes rather than cigarettes.
