indian giver is when u give somethin then ask for it back....

its a traders old quote, indians (natives) used to trade for hunting gears and whisky, after they'd done using the gear or they'd finish their firewater, they'd go back and ask for watever they traded...

my tia says "por ahi va la iguana" whenever shes tryin to say somethin n forgets wat shes talkin about, its like sayin " yeah its somethinalong those lines" i dunno what an iguana has to do with anythin but thats just wat she says...

Back home older folks have a saying that I never quite got, when referring to something that is very old, that goes like this:
"Eso es de cuando los perros se ataban con chorizos"... Perros?? chorizos??? WTF?!?!?!?

An indian giver would be Danny. shrug.gif

No just kidding giggle.gif An indian giver is a person who re-gifts a gift that was given to them. For example, for a wedding gift you get a toaster, and you take that toaster and give it to someone else. Osea que also sos cheap. Algo asi.

Thats not what an indian giver is at all. An indian giver is someone who gives something away and then takes or asks for it back. Also I think your other quote is supposed to be NO todo lo que brilla es oro, which would make perfect sense.... I think maybe its someone else who is "up there" when they write stuff... biggrin

Is there some unwritten rule that says when you get cake, you're not supposed to eat it? weirdface

It pretty much implies want more than you handle or deserve, or to try to have two incompatible things.

It's usually the spanish ones that sometimes sound odd to me, like:

A caballo regalado no se le mira el diente.  Apparently it implies that when someone gives you something you shouldnt be picky, just thankful.

But what da heck do horses have to do with it?????

Or in English when someone gets called an "indian giver"????  What is that?

Apparently you can tell a lot about a horse by looking at it's teeth. I think mostly it's age and health. I guess it just means don't be picky about the horse that is GIVEN to you

And it's "A caballo regalado no se le miran LOS dienteS"... unless you get a one toothed horse, then it's ok blankstare.gif

Y yo he escuchado: "Pidiendo caridad y con garrote en mano" shrug.gif

I guess there are different versions of it.

And i'll tell you why it makes no sense. Because it's in a manu chao song. And that guy's songs are always (most likely) written when he's 'up there'...which is awesome cuz he's pure genius. And if says so, then it must be true.
