i cant see the youtube links posted... but unless the linkage provides some sort of insight or some sort of comment or thought or even persuasive arguement, I dont know how it relates to the topic.
i think these r the reasons why many latinos slowly se alejan del ambiente latino aqui from what my older brothers cousins and friends have said....10 years ago the scene was better ....sucks alot
the problem with me is that i much rather prefer a latin scene then a non latin scene........i get bored of english clubs......plus im picky with music.....no modern hiphop or any of that wackness.....
times have changed
Times have changed, taste in music has changed. There's still great music out there and some of us are getting old and cant really handle most of the new stuff. I bet your parents said the same thing as they were getting older
ya true say...they r actually a bit more modern and dont mind new music lol....
when i have gone to a few english clubs i couldnt stand most of the music....i remember turbo night club would do a few nights of old school hiphop....anyone else know were they play a few of those?
Down One and Andy's Pool Hall. Also, if you hit the Amnesia Events once a month, believe me, all you'll hear is old school.
As for the scene changing, yes it has, quite a bit. I started clubing and going to concerts when i was 15 and it was very different. Concerts were better organized, ppl never really left complaining about sound, the artist, etc.
As far as concerts go, i will pretty much just go to the ones that i actually really like and see it worth while to invest my time and money.

"Boycott spanish concerts for 2008" - That has to be the stupidest line of the year so far...
Ginolatino - with a name like that I can see this coming from you - (Lil confused I think there a buddy) GINO - LATINO....
2007 was a good year for concerts. This year thanks to some new production companies & new now established promoters, we had a successfull year. Many concerts in 07 indeed "woke up" the latin community....this year by far was the busiest in that regard. Sure there were some disappointing once but you can't say BOYCOTT SPANISH CONCERTS FOR 2008 just because unprofessional & irresponble people were behind some of them. You also have to take into consideration that sometimes and I stress sometimes some things are out of the control of the production/promoters i.e cancelationS or immigtation issues
But these are not excuses, just simple truth that these things happen. Little did I know that to do a CONCERT requires lots of TIME / ORGANIZATION / LOTS OF PAPPER WORK/ COMMUNICATION / PUBLICITY / EXTENSIVE PROMOTION / BOOKINGS FLIGHTS/ HOTEL/ DIET OF ARTISTS/ TRANSPORTATON/ HIRING A GOOD SOUND GUY/ GETTING A GOOD DJ/ MORE TIME / EXTREME HARD WORK & RESPONSIBILTY ...other things are missing that I have LEARNED THIS year when I along side Taco PROMOTED the Jerry Rivera - Mega concert.
There is so much behind the scenes that people OSEA you guys the CLIENTEL do not know.... you base you opinion on what you see and hear and the sad TRUTH is that most of the time YOU DON'T know the real FACTS becasue everyone has the answer and everyone is supposeably correct because her/his friend said blah blah blah ........ in the end only the ORGANIZERS of the events know what went wrong or how successful the EVENT was.
Trust me when I say IT IS NOT EASY TO ORGANIZE A CONCERT, I learn that to the fullest last year specially having 3 weeks to promote with no TLN commercials.... Thank god that the concert I was involved in was deemed a success by many people. NOW THAT YOU KNOW SOME OF THE REQUIREMENTS to organize a concert ...... think of all of these things b4 you make a conclusion with out knowing the FATCS. Again just because some concerts this year were not good or there were SCAMS (artists not showing up or False advertizement) does not mean you HAVE TO BOYCOTT ALL CONCERTS IN 2008 ...i mean that jus wrong!
IF ANYTHING WE SHOULD STICK TOGETHER AS A LATIN COMMUNITY AND SUPPORT ONE AN OTHER TO MAKE OUR COMMUNITY STRONGER AND SHOW THESE CANADIANS THAT AS A UNITED PEOPLE WE ARE MORE THEN WHAT THEY THINK WE ARE ...SECOND TO THEM.... WE ARE BEAUTIFUL, RICH IN CULTURE AND HAVE SOMMUCH TO GIVE TO OUR COMMUNITIES and everyday there is more and more LATINOS showing that they are doing something good to represent US here in Toronto, Canada.
So I say 2008 you don't Boycott spanish concerts BUT SUPPORT / UNITE AS A PEOPLE and make every latin event a successful one. My company and I have many plans for 2008 including a few concerts and I indend on making them successful and memorable for all. I KNOW THAT WITHOUT "YOU" THE PEOPLE this is simply not POSSIBLE but I'am confident in mi gente and I know that 2007 was jus the beginning of what's to come and that is TO CONTINUE TO DEMOSTRATE THAT WE LATINOS WHEN WE ARE TOGETHER ARE UNSTOPABLE!
Thank you for your time,
Henry Prieto Muevelo Ent.

I think there were some good ones. Among them Gilberto Santa Rosa, Willie Colón, Andy Montañéz.Los tigres del Norte came in their own Jet . El combo de las estrellas from Colombia was pretty ok.Chayanne was brougth by a latino promoter, Jorge Pérez of JEP Productions. Also Pablo Montero came and had a good show. La Charanga Habanera From Cuba was a good one too. So not every thing was bad. There are some good promoters too.Just have to do your homework before buying your tickets.

I think that the main problem is that most Latin promoters in Toronto are NOT professional promoters! A lot of young peeps with a little bit of money and a lot of friends doesn't make a promoter No professionalism and clueless about bussiness practice and ethics

i dont know about any boycotting but i do agree that most of the events this year sucked
shakira? thank god none of the latin promotion companies did her show, that show was the best of 07
as promoters you guys gotta start changing the game cause i feel most promoters still try to copy past events/promoters
and please try to fix the small things that people always complain about (ex: artists late or not showing up, cover to high, only bringing artists who are cheap and cost less etc.....)
2008 is a fresh year ITS TIMES 2 MAKE AN IMPAKT
WWW.MYSPACE.COM/PLYERO
Actually, i think Shakira was in 2006? I remember it was in August or something like that

Not only am I all for a boycott, I have been practicing a sort of personal boycott since last year. Obviously one less ticket sold has absolutly no bearing in the outcome of an event but unfortunatelly I feel that the majority of us here in the city take the approach of continuing to pay for tickets, hoping it would be better this time, and being sadly dissapointed when its not. Which, as we have seen, offers ZERO incentive for promoters to actually try to improve.
I do agree with aka_taco when he says that it would not be fair to blindly paint all event organizers with the same brush since some of them (very few) actually do take pride in putting up a quality show. There are certain people in the industry however, that I wouldnt go see another show they organized if they personaly came to my house to pick me up and payed me by the hour to be there.
thank you sir
much appreciated
and yeah...latin scene does suck...i cant deny it..
i dont think i ve ever done a ALL LATIN jam...my crowd is usually mixed..from latin(majority) to white, blondes..lol and a small % of brown, black and even asians
2007 was very....busy for me...the maddness end tomorrow @ body english

i see his point in a way....hes just pissed cause alot of latin concerts (not saying all) havent ended up exactly "great"......not just this year but the years before as well........theres always an issue regarding sounds, venue, organization etc etc...
whats worse is that its in our community....u feel me?
THINGS GOT TO MAKE SENSE BEFORE YOU EXPRESS YOURSELF BUDDY
JUST BECAUSE THE "LA PALABRA" OR WHATEVER CONCERT THAT WAS
FLOP AND THE ARTISTS DID NOT SHOW UP AND BECAUSE MONCHY Y ALEXANDRA CAME @ 2:20 AM
THIS SHOULDNT MEAN TO ANYONE IN THE LATIN COMMUNITY THAT ALL THE NEXT LATIN EVENTS/CONCERTS ARE GOING TO BE THE SAME AS THESE 2
maybe if you say: lets see who throws a jam or concert before i attend it...yessss
No name promoters or people that have already done scams, such as the ORO SOLIDO @ GUVERNEMNT....or THE BACHATA DUDE @ MAGNATZ so called concert when i was only 1 or 2 sounds...
promoters build a re****tion...based on how bigg the party is
from music, to crowd, to # of people to venues....
Once again....make sense before you create a scene here..

what a dissapointing year 2007 turned out to be regarding concerts for the latin community. This is why i stick to my freestyle artist concerts or the concerts thrown by Z103.5! So r u gonna go to concerts in 2008 or r u just gonna assume it'll turn out horrible and just nto go if the ticket is higher than $10?
