there are tons of puppies or dogs in need of a good home at the Toronto Humane Society. There are dogs that have been there forever plus a day, looking for a good home to take them in.
Buying from a pet store or even worse a puppy mill or an independent breader might not be the best choice. A lot of people fabricate records and bread lines, so what you pay for is not necessarily what you get.

Cheap dogs?.... humane society, for sure MJ should know
I was thinking along the lines of them "puppy mills" where they breed dogs and sell them off much cheaper than the regular pet stores
Not looking for an older Dog (no offence intended to Dog-o!) - those seem to be the ones that are readily available at the THS... more looking for a few weeks old "puppy" - which are rare to find at the THS, I think.

xavier pitbulls were ment to be used for fights ..guard dogs....protection etc....if you rasie a pitty the right way..he wont just randomnly attack anyone...but if one day u r in trouble then by far the dog will deffend you..the pitbull has everything to protect an owner....
too many people have the misconception of pitbulls being violent for the hell of it....if u raise them the right way they wont be..they actually love kids did u know that?:).....but like other dogs if you mess with the owner it will go after you...
i personally would prefer a bigger strong dog....

It don't matter how well you raise a dog - they don't have the (human) ability to think and reason. Being animals they will just go with their insctincts and do whatever feels right to them. I have known of pitbulls to be aggressive and attack their own owners for no apparent reason.
Not just pitbulls, but ANY breed can turn on people... just that the bigger dogs can do much more damage for their size and power. Obviously smaller dogs can still hurt you; but not quite as much as the bigger stronger breeds.
hermano your letting all the media news stories fool you.....no such thing..my boy owns a pink nose pitbull has a daughter 2 years old now the dog doesnt hurt a fly and he is always around kids when his wife babysits...

I don't want a dirty / unhealthy dog. There HAS to be some ppl who breed dogs well and make a buck doing it, without putting the animals health at risk or ripping customers off. I don't know, no se... digo yo.

So if one doesn't want to pay an arm and a leg at the pet shop, where does one go and get a little puppy?
If you get it from somewhere other than a pet shop - what are your obligations? have to registered it / where? have to vaccinate it? how many injections? approximately how much for vaccinations? Anything else I should know?
