@ Pinky: Wow, I'm impressed. You really did do your research. Good for you! I love reading the Toronto Sun. They soooo wear their politics on their sleeves. Well, I guess the Star does too. Speaking of the Star, they're inundating my neighbourhood with free papers. it's such a waste!
of course they voted against it, they are the smallest party, now u think that if they had the marjority they wouldn't vote YES. please don't be blinded by it..
Oh yeah .. GO LIBERALS GO.. FOUR MORE YEARS

Whatever you say!!!! You must have a wicked job to LOVE being taxed over and over AND OVER again!!!!!
The list of promises was so long, it was inevitable that some would be broken. Taxes were raised, despite a signed pledge to the contrary; coal-fired power stations were not slated for closure, despite a commitment that they would be, and on and on.
They have attempted to explain their failures, claiming they had no idea the public accounts would be such a mess when Ernie Eves' Conservatives left office (this is disingeuous in the extreme -- I recall being briefed by then finance critic, Gerry Phillips, in summer 2003 about the size of the black hole in the Conservative government's books).
Mr. McGuinty must live with the knowledge that he has won the election but lost the trust and affection of many Ontarians -- even if they voted for him.
Missing from the document were specifics besides a new statutory holiday in February, all-day kindergarten, and a ban on pesticides, and a few other relatively marginal commitments.
Beyond these, McGuinty cannot claim a mandate to do much more than stay the course that is, continue to invest more in health care and education while maintaining a balanced budget and attempting to confront problems like a stubbornly high poverty level and a backlog of infrastructure repairs.
Oh, and McGuinty will have to do all that without raising taxes, a promise he made again this campaign after breaking it in his first mandate.
Instead, it's The Who lyrics: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."
It blows my mind that Ontario voters would reward a leader whose track record on breaking promises could make the Guinness Book of World Records.
Read Premier Flip Flop McFly's lips. "I will not raise taxes" is one of 206 promises he made this time to get elected.
Only four years ago, Dalton McGuinty made the same promise by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, then we got whacked with his $11-billion health-tax levy, plus the delisting of health services, like eye exams, while he stole a line from the Beatles' song Taxman to slap higher taxes on everything from car licences to court fees to booze and cigarettes.
We already did a 1,250-day FIBeral jail term and are we any better off? Our net debt (accumulated annual deficits) jumped from $138 billion to $158 billion (today's debt, tomorrow's taxes).
We were once the economic engine of the country, now firms are leaving, Northern Ontario is a ghost-town and Ontario ranks one of the worst places to invest, behind B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, all who've cut taxes.
We've got the highest corporate tax burden in the country, the highest property tax burden in the industrialized world and Ontario families still work for almost six months just to pay their total tax bill, with Tax Freedom Day falling on June 19.
Next year, property taxes will head even higher, when McGuinty's freeze on market assessments will be lifted. And if you live in Toronto, watch out for a doubling of the land transfer tax, now that McGuinty gave sweeping taxing powers to Mayor David Miller.
And by 2010, government will be in our kitchens, laundry rooms and bathrooms, as McGuinty ordered every home to install a smart meter, so we wake in the wee hours to cook, clean and do laundry.
These meters will force small businesses, our largest job creators, to pay high peak rates when they can't shift their load, warns Judith Andrew, vice-president, Ontario for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
She said both hydro and insurance remain burning issues. Meanwhile, some actuaries are warning, now that the election is over, insurance firms will start applying for premium hikes.
The only good news is McGuinty lowered the small business tax threshold, while promising to cut the business education tax and capital tax.
Douglas Porter, deputy chief economist with BMO Capital, says McGuinty should cut income taxes, both personal and corporate, to help boost the economy, which has been hit hard by a Canadian dollar at par, a slumping auto sector, a slowing U.S. economy and high energy costs.
"We need tax relief," said Porter.
Neil Veldhuis, director of fiscal studies at the Fraser Institute, also advises McGuinty to cut taxes.
It's hardly good news for Toronto taxpayers -- given McGuinty's appalling track record on taxes last term and his flimsy promises for the next four years -- and Miller did absolutely nothing to help the city's cause. If (McGuinty) doesn't deliver, the residents of Toronto are going to end up being the victims of the mayor's lack of engagement in the provincial election campaign," he told me last night. "At the end of the day the residents are going to be paying through additional taxes or higher property taxes."
What's the first thing this idiot does??? Creates a HOLIDAY!!!!!!!!
Big freakin' deal!!!!!!!!
There can be 30 people saying "He raised taxes WHEN HE SAID HE WOULDN'T" and you'd be the only person cheering, "Yeah McGuinty!!!!!!"
How sad.
Mark my words, you'll remember how wonderful your Liberal government is when your son starts college/university.

I voted NDP this time around, but only cus I wanna see them deliver & I think they had a fairly good run campaign, they didn't do bad at all & if the new refreumdum goes thru tonite, there luck may change even more & the challenge will be on for them to prove themselfs.
Anyhow in the past I've been full support of the PC.
At least John Tory got his arse kicked pretty good - YIPEEEEEE!!!!!!
I actually consider that a loss for his riding and a loss for his party, 'cause they'll probably get rid of him now.
Please tell me you don't actually care about the conservatives
I do. I like Tory. And there's always good to have a ying for a yang. Otherwise politics would be boring. In fact, I feel that in Canada there's not really that much difference between parties and ideologies, not MARKED differences anyway. Little tiny differences, more like it. I'll tell you this, too. I don't like McGuinty. I don't think he's trustworthy and I don't like the way he handles himself and politics. But hey, liberals won so that's a good thing, right? It's not so much about the leader as it is about the party's ideology. I'll also tell you this, and this is the reason why I never got involved in politics, even though I love it: you can be a firm believer of something, and be all for your riding and your community, but once you get to power, whatever the party says, goes, regardless of how it'll affect the community that elected you in the first place. I don't have party loyalty, 'cause I like a little from column A and a little from column B, and I know most people feel the same. So we just live and let live.
and the pay raise is for min wage to go to 10, i don't think the ecomony can take it, if we raise the min wage things will go up
You don't understand. McGuinty and his crew gave THEMSELVES a payraise!!! So if they were making 80,000, they're now making $110,000. It was in the news!!!!! You think that's right? Have our wait times at the hospital been decreased? Is the TTC raising their fees AGAIN???!!!!
Yes, NDP is for making minimum wage $10 but what's wrong with that? Instead of people juicing the welfare system, they're busting their a$$es off to make $8!!!!!
listen no matter what people are going to juice the welfare system...
and u think that the NDP is not taking a pay raise also?
I don't go to the hospital, cause when I was a kid it was a long wait(don't blame the Goverment),the nurse stand around and do nothing

READ the article.
The New Democrats were the only ones to vote against the $22,000 increase in base pay, which raises the minimum salary for all members to $110,000 a year.
Gimme a break. Look at school tuition now!!! It's ridiculous!!!! Liberals suck, period!!!!!
@angelita: Shut up and follow that truck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of argentinian politics, a couple of days ago Chayanne had to stop his concert in Argentina after four songs 'cause he lost his voice. Something about poisoned yerba mate or bad argentinian oxygen or something. It's never happened to him before.
@Guada: You left me more Good thing you're not a teacher. Yeah, I remember the Vaughan politicians. It was the son or daughter of the past MP and the other guy was his or her right hand man or woman. Or something along those lines. I still don't get the referendum.
OMG, is he ok?? When did it happen?? Will he sing again?? Where did you hear this??
Yes. He is okay. I just talked to him a couple of minutes ago, and he said not to worry, that he'll by fine and in tiptop shape for his presentation in Toronto in November. And you do care about voting, otherwise you wouldn't even have bothered to look in this thread.
Phew, thank Jebus he's ok!! I can work in peace now. Umm, btw don't lie to me missy, he's not going to be here in November.... or is he?? Tell me woman

A referendum is supposed to serve as a sort of direct democracy, the people's choice, what does the people of the pueblo want, a sort of public authority thingy.
Mira, esto dice mi dic:
referendum |rfrndm| noun ( pl. -dums |rfrndmz|or -da |rfrnd|) a general vote by the electorate on a single political question that has been referred to them for a direct decision. the process of referring a political question to the electorate for this purpose. ORIGIN mid 19th cent.: from Latin, gerund ( referring ), or neuter gerundive ( something to be brought back or referred ) of referre (see refer ).
Thesaurus referendum noun he called for a referendum on the death penalty popular vote, vote, public vote, plebiscite, ballot, poll.
In the end, i hate politics, because they make you think it's all about democracy, equal rights, your vote/opinion counts, and blah blah blah, but it doesn't. We just keep falling for all the lies. Ah, there you go, we basically vote for the best liar. What ever.

I actually will try to go out and vote, but i don't know if i will make it on time.
Anyway, if i have it correctly, this referendum thingy-magig is para avoid lo que ese italian guy did when the lady won to rep. Vaughn...remember? I forgot their names. He wanted a re-count and he lost anyway the second time. And, i think he still wants to appeal for another re-count. Tenia que ser italian.
Pero eso es lo que mas o menos entiendo de la babosada. It's just so that who ever wins at the first vote count, that's it until next election time comes around. And to stop cry baby politicians from wasting out time.
I hope i've been of more confusing help.
De nada.

I know this thread will be dead by 8:00 this morning, 'cause nobody cares about this (especially on a big ass concert night), but for those two of you who care, are you voting today? Do you know who you're voting for?
And can someone please essplain the friggin' referendum to me??? The more I read the more I become. What the hell are they trying to do? I just don't get it.
Okay, I realize this is the beginning and the end of this thread. So goodbye and good luck to you all.
