I agree with you...I think that my views on the subject is no secret for some of you.
But since this is something that the Gov. had given to the citizen and was using it, in time of political campaign as we want to built something better, keep the kids out o the street etc.... I think they are doing a mistake.
I mean, the keeping our streets clean and our kids out of trouble does not go very well with their decision. I guess thatis more what I meant.

So now I would say that the real question is...what happened with the billions of surplus that On generated last year ?

Isn't some sort of "guarderias" after school hours ? For the parents that can't pick them up @ that time ? When I was a kid it was until 6pm and it was still inside the school ground but we were doing our homework and palying under supervision of staff ?x

@ julie - Por que seguen la ley, kids under 12 (right ?) can't stay home without supervision but what if you have o choice, no money for a sitter and no family close by etc...so are they going to charge you for negligeance or something ?

I hear u, but i don't think it's their responsiblitly to worry if the parents can or not afford it. If any1 choose to have kids then they should think of all these things & be prepared.

So I guess they are going to be many kids left @ home alone then ! Let see if the potential rise (God forbid) of house accident bring their little bublight brain back to life.

This is one of the points that was brought up when we had a meeting about two weeks ago.  This program is beneficial for the kids, who like you said, are spending their time doing something productive that is keeping them out of trouble.  It is beneficial for the teenagers that work there as councillors, cause again, they are staying out of trouble.  And beneficial for the parents who work late, to know that at least their children are somewhere safe.

But this is also affecting the elderly.  Some of the seniors that attend these programs, this is pretty much their only distraction or means of interactions with other ppl.

So they dont have money for this but yet they have like $1,000,000 to give to some stupid cricket or squash team, or something like that.furious

So true....If I'm correct, I think it was like $1.7 million that the provincial government gave to the Cricket club. It's called buying out votes. the Indian/East Asian community is HUGE so McGuinty ain't dumb. PLUS there are rumors that he's a "close perdonal friend" to these people.
Toronto is slowly becoming a ghetto paradise like New York once was....good thing I live in Brampton....hmm
Hope things work out for you mija...suerte.aww
