Besides those "special" cubans who get access to certain resorts (only at certain times of the year) a local cuban (say they lived near the resort) cannot go onto the hotel grounds. Security is outside of all resorts, and if a "regular" cuban is found within the grounds they will go to jail.
When I was there in March there was a lady who met a Cuban guy at the disco one night.... well she decided to "sneak" him into her hotel room that night.
Well, a security gaurd (FROM ANOTHER RESORT) saw him with her, and called the security at our resort to say that there was a local in there. Well security had no idea who it was, or what room, but they knocked on everyone's door, at first they couldn't find him anywhere, but they went back a second time, and found the dude hiding in this ladies closet buck naked. The guy was taken away in handcuffs, spent 4 nites in jail, and the next day she had to go into town, with the immigration and cops, where she was "stamped" on her passport and is not allowed to return for 5 years...... so yea... they're not playin down there. hmm

So many weird things about cuba, for example, I once was in Holguin, and was driving to the airport, next to the airport is an army base (which I didn't know was one, until afterwards) Well they had this cool missile thing outside, so I thought that Id take a picture, I pulled my camera out, and suddenly the taxi was surronded by soldiers..... one guy came to the window and took my camera, went through ALL my pics, just to get to the one that I had just shot, because "Apparently" you are not to take ANY pics of any GOV official, or army base etc....... wtf?

In Canada, im sure a cop would stop for a pic....hahaha, he'd prolly even give you a thumbs up!

Ahhhhhhhh "mi cuba libre".............. (NOT!) hmm

There is something I am a little confused about.  If you are so against the Cuban Goverment and it's ways why waste your money travelling there?  Why not show your dislike of the way Castro runs his country by not giving them a penny?

There is ALOT I dont agree with, but fortunately I do not live there, so I don't exactly "hate" the gov't.

And the reason I spend my pennies on that place, is cus unfortunately my friends can't come visit me here, soooooooooo Im left with no other choice to go there, I love the island, its beautiful, the people are great, but like in every society , the government is f _ cked up. (some places more then others ie: cuba)

But you know what Danny, I think that you should eventually see what it's like there. For us tourists, we see the "beautiful" cuba but you have to get to know the people and the culture, Ive never met people with such rich culture, and traditions. They may not have much, but will offer you anything that they can.
They welcome you with open arms, and instantly you are "socios".
Its something you've got to see, trust me .... because its one thing to read about it, and hear about it, but it's another thing when you see it with your own two eyes.

Its unreal. hmm

ya mamita i kind of already have an idea of how it is already tho...from what people tell me and from what i read and looked at...la pobreza is the same anywhere...from everything you told me ..alot of towns and cities in ecuador look exactly the same based on ur description...so its like a been there done that for me....i lived through alot of that...saw alot of that....me da pena la verdad ver todo eso...and i have a big time guilty feeling whenever i go back to ecuador and alot of these unfortunte kids see me as someone higher then them just cause im from north america....i straight up feel bad and uncomfortable cause my family and i at one time were in the same bout..and we learned to always treat everyone equally.....

its funny how whenever i go back home ecuas that live there who are considered well off and "upper class" r looking at me weird when i talk or chill with a black person or with a construction worker who are considered big time low class back home.....it sucks that latin america tiene que tener esa mentalidad

I forgot to mention in my other post, that sometimes, certain hotels allow "REGULAR" citizens to enter the hotel, when an "Extranjero" is paying for their day pass, but they are only allowed to eat and drink till 6pm I think, then they have to go.... you can always try to pay to keep them later (and god knows any of them down there, will do it for extra cash) but it's a big no no , for them to "consume" after 6.

Yea.... go fidel!

Mentira!!! Last time I was at the Tryp Peninsula in Varadero there were more Cuban families there from CUBA than tourists. All expense paid vacations they get from the goverment for various reasons.

ill have to look into that..

Its true. For example: people that work for the gov./army/high end ppl/athletes

Exactly....not all cubans have access to it.

Let me rephrase it because is not about Cuba is about the Goverment right?

Not all the citizens have access to it.

You should watch Sicko it's very interesting to say the least. hmm

They preach about freedom, democracy and so many other things they claim to be meanwhile those who don't have the means to pay for insurance just die!!  Basic needs don't get met.
