Erik B and Rakim ....too bad those type of mc's are so rare these days.  Nas is still doing his thing though and he has not lost his touch at all.

Hopefully we will get some of the old guys come out with a tour.  Now that would be crazy.

Oh man! Beat Street is da ****!

I'm not sure who here ever played GTA:Vice city, but one of the soundtracks "Wildstyle" has tons of old school beats.

My all time fave.

HA! I used to love it cuz my brother was obsessed with it.  He had actually he still has friends in the Rock Steady Crew...used to travel to New York all the time.  He honestly wasn't any good but his friends had crazy talent.  I remember watching them practice on cardboard outside our building for HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS on end.

all that seems to be important now is how much money you make, the girls you f%&k, your rims and your grills...how sad that this is what hip hop has turned in to...

Speaking of Hip Hop culture anyone remember the movie Beat Street. I must have seen that movie a hundred times!  Anyone into break dancing back in the day or just follow it in general?

Con razon there's a motto being said that hip hop is dead.
Back in the day it had good lyrical content speaking of social issues and things people could relate to. Now they have s h i t t y  hooks that repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat....you get the point. The dirty south for sure has some wack stuff blaring out recently with that repetitive crap sing.gif Hey bay-bay....Hey bay-bay sing.gif or sing.gif Pop..Lock n' Drop sing.gif   Can't stand that S h i t........ frustrated.gif

hip hop 2day is all jokes, its nasty music

thank god theres reggaertonbiggrin

Okay DIDDY is a piece of s h i t who admits to having never written anything!!  Anyway I think the rest on your list passes but I think it was even better b4 them artists you listed.  I am taking WAY BACK...slick rick, Doug E Fresh, Kurtis Blow, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J (back then), Grandmaster Flash and the furious five.....etc.  My brother is five years older than me and LOVES real hip hop and always has so I grew up with REAL hip hop.

A so called "rapper" could never step to an MC from back in the day and that is a fact.

I agree with Danny for the first time ever!!!  Not about reggaetoni but about the so called hip hop that is out these days.  It SUCKS a s s in a horrible way. No doubt hip hop was better back in the day.  You can't even compare it to the s h i t that is out now.  Nas is still doing his thing..writting wicked lyrics as always.

Ahhhhhhh the good old days.  Remember Bid Daddy Kane and Grand Puba....ahhhh!

danny pero el nuevo hiphop que ha salido "dirty south" tiene un estilo muy parecido a las nuevas canciones de reggaeton que ahi  por ahi.. pana hellllllllllllllll noooooooooooooooooooo disbelief.gif  reggaeton has a good beat to dance too.....dirty south rap has nada....other then a bunch of fools bobbing their head up and down..forming a circle hahahah

hiphop was already commercial way before reggaeton....it just got to crappy
Otra cosa que no entiendo es como no te gusta la salsa romantica pero te gusta la musica "criolla" o de ecuador , que en todo caso es musica lenta.. que esta mas hecha para esuchcar que para bailar.
i found a new appreciation for salsa from groups like el gran combo smilesmile...

I know what you are saying about modern hip hop. It's kinda lost it's touch, but I'd rather listen to some of the worst hip hop over the best reggaetonhmm
Plus hip hop will always be bigger no matter what. Think about it. Reggaeton has never been able to cross over. Not just talking about mainstream, but I'm talking about fan base. Reggaeton pretty much remains loved by the few latino's that like it while hip hop is embraced by many cultures. Latino's like you who like old school hip hop to wiggers, asians and so on.

pana if u think reggaeton never made it to the cross over...then u gotta do some major research  on a couple of sources...:P.....compared to what it was 10 years ago..trust me it sure as hell did blow up not world wide.....production wise....latin america...united states..some parts of europe...tego will be doing a concert in spain ..and don omar made a hit in italy.....

but its ok....im know u dont pay attention to the genre but trust me coming from a 100% fan like myself......ill give you the heads up and fill you in...

and obviously hiphop is bigger worldwide....but who cares? the quality of music as of late is still **** to the bone......every real hiphop old school fan knows the dirty south killed the genre big time...or at least had a significant role in making it thumbsdown.gif....

even u said it it lost its touch...and i know u and i go way back and know what was the **** back in the day..compared to now.....hiphop blew up worldwide and commercial wide...but the quality of music became wack to the max...

i would have prefered it like it was back in the early mid 90s....but oh well..

and plus reggaeton compared to 10 years ago definetly changed for the good..production wise artists music etc..biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin ill be mroe then happy to send u tracks u most likely never heard off
