Aprovechando la inercia de su espectacular victoria sobre Brasil (4-2) en Maracaná, el combinado de Ecuador alcanzó esa histórica clasificación para una final inédita al superar anoche a Bolivia (1-0). Los tricolores volvieron a demostrar que tienen la virtud de rentabilizar sus acciones de ataque y han encadenado una secuencia de partidos en los que su tremenda pegada ha sido decisiva. Los ecuatorianos tienen, además, el mérito añadido de haber llegado al instante supremo del torneo con un equipo sub 17, aunque juega como si estuviera integrado por avezados veteranos. La selección tricolor forma un equipo en el amplio sentido de la palabra, aunque el alma es el delantero Edmundo Zura, uno de esos jugadores que supera la edad de sus compañeros (tiene 24 años), pero es un estilete de auténtico lujo, aparentemente capaz de dar el salto a un equipo europeo. Zura dice que se está "acostumbrando" a jugar en Maracaná, de hecho quiere dar el salto al fútbol brasileño. "El fútbol está evolucionando mucho en nuestro país", dice el entrenador ecuatoriano que apuesta siempre por unos laterales con muchísimo recorrido que sorprenden al rival en sus arrancadas. El equipo ecuatoriano protagoniza durante los partidos fugaces "arreones" ofensivos que le alcanzan de sobra para ganar los partidos. El equipo de Vizuete muestra durante algunos minutos su mejor cara y después vuelve a meterse "en su cueva" con una inteligencia y un orden admirables. Ecuador lleva siempre los partidos a su terreno. Siempre más especulativos que audaces golean y después son maestros en aguantar la agonía de los últimos minutos como sucedió ayer ante Bolivia. La selección tricolor ha destacado en los últimos años en el fútbol base. Muchos de los jugadores que forman su selección en Río ya ganaron el Sudamericano sub 17 Los quiteños Liga Deportiva Universitaria (LDUQ) y El Nacional y los guayaquileños Barcelona y Emelec son los equipos más representativos de este país y entre sus jugadores de más calidad de los últimos años está Jaime Iván Kaviedes, quien jugó en el Celta y el Real Valladolid españoles.
