I'm basically just looking to have a sort of gallery, nothing with transactions or anything complicated.

it depends on what are you building.  If you're doing a website that's only gonna have 100 visits per day, sure go ahead.... if you're planning on building the next TH ... don't .

btw, use netfirms.ca and not netfirms.com

yeah, I've used them before. they're a canadian company. low cost and good features...especially the FTP manager. not a bad choice. go for it.
